How can lighting help accomplish your worship ministry? Communication is enhanced when people can clearly see and read the worship leader's facial expressions. Likewise, if the congregation is well lit the leaders can see the people's faces and make good eye contact. Although each worship space is different, here are some of the general principles that we follow. One lighting option is the traditional hanging lantern. Lanterns have the good quality of casting flattering light on people's faces. Unfortunately, lanterns usually cannot get enough light for reading into the worship space without becoming annoyingly bright. Another choice is ceiling down-lights. These can provide plenty of illumination, but they cast a vertical light that creates shadows on people's faces. Worship leaders' faces should be illuminated from both sides by accent lights, with one side being brighter than the other. Interested in learning more? Call us! We renovate sanctuaries, including lighting plans and the design of custom lighting fixtures.
