The church building is a tool for ministry. The ministry is the goal. The building is only a tool to accomplish that goal. This is a truism, but a truism of great power. To use it, you must identify the ministries that you want to accomplish. A ministry may be as straightforward as providing after-school tutoring, or creating an accessible route to the sanctuary. Clearly, building a classroom will help you accomplish the first, while installing a ramp may help you accomplish the second. But a ministry can also be more subtle, such as forming the congregation into one body as it gathers for worship, or presenting a friendly face to the community. Here, the answer is also more subtle, but no less real. The next pages identify a number of ministries and explain how your building can help you accomplish them.
