    Marion H. Osgood was optician who had a shop at 156 North First Street in downtown San Jose. Before, that, he was a jeweler. He was born in Fairfield, Somerset County, Maine, and served in the Union Army as a private in Company G, Maine 14th Infantry Regiment. After the war, he married Hattie A. Harker on Sept. 23, 1874, in Rochester, New Hampshire. Their marriage record states that Marion H. Osgood was 27 years old, born in Fairfield, Maine, to Hudson and Elizabeth Osgood; Hattie was 22, born in Dover, N.H., the daughter of John C. and Harriett Harker.

    The family moved from Rochester, New Hampshire, to San Jose in the 1880s. Their children included Wilfred Hudson Osgood, Alice Maud Osgood, Charles Sumner Osgood, and Hattibel H. Osgood.

    Hattie Amanda (Harker) Osgood died on Jan. 22, 1944, in Los Angeles, at the age of 91.

    John C Harker arrived on the Ship England, aged 26, Arrival Date: 22 Sep 1838. He came as a Calico Printer from Burnley, England, to work at the Cocheco Manufacturing Company at the Mills in downtown Dover, New Hampshire, most likely in the Print building.
    He was also a member Method Episcopal Church in Dover, N.H.

    City directories show him living in 1846 and 1848 on North Pine Street, no number is given. Vital records from the Exeter Newsletter, in Exeter NH, show his obituary: Volume XXX No. 10 - 11 June, 1855; Died, in Dover, NH, John C. Harker, aged 44. It did not site the exact date or cause so it would have been during the week prior to 11 June, 1855.

She then married Luther Wentworth - no children from that marriage. After Luther died, she and Charles Robert Harker, her youngest son, lived with her daughter once again. The entire family moved to California in 1888. Wilfred Hudson Osgood, zoologist and past curator of the Field Museum, is her grandson. Harriet is the daughter of Daniel and Mary Watson from Dover, NH.
