    Paul Gritton, FORT DODGE, Iowa #45;- Paul I. Gritton, 79, Fort Dodge, formerly of Muscatine, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. Graveside services were Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill., with military rites. Mr. Gritton was born on Feb. 13, 1923, in New Boston, Ill., the son of Lewis and Eunice Mathews Gritton. He married Cleo Carver on Oct. 17, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1941. He moved to Fort Dodge in 1952. He was manager of the Des Moines Register Agency for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1856 and Northwest Iowa boat club. Survivors include his wife, Cleo of Fort Dodge; a son, Roger and his wife, Patricia, of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Schachtner and her husband, Leonard, of Fonda and Vicki Buchan and her husband, James, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Dr. Charlie Gritton and his wife, Virginia, of Henderson, Ky. and Robert Gritton and his wife, Delores, of Russellville, Ark.; three sisters, Vivian Irwin and her husband, Carl, Margaret Webb Travis and her husband, Walter, and Marjorie Hintermeister and her husband, Clifford, all of Muscatine; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Elliott of Muscatine.

    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home for Lewis Gritton, 78, of 195 Sherman St., who died at 12;15 p.m. Sunday at the Muscatine General Hospital.
    Visitation will begin at 7 p\o'clock this evening at the funeral home.
    A son of Edward P. and Sarah Minteer Gritton, he was born Oct. 7, 1893 in Muscatine county. A former resident of New Boston, Ill, he had resided here since 1928.
    Lewis Gritton first married Eunice Mathews on Oct. 15, 1914 at Burlington. She preceded him in death. He married Anna Krieger on Dec. 19, 1959 at Muscatine.
    Mr. Gritton was a member of the First Christian Church. A former member of the Muscatine Board of Health, he was a retired employee of the International Harvester Co.
    Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Anna Gritton at home; three sons, Dr. Charlie L. Gritton of Henderson, Ky., Paul Gritton of Fort Dodge, Robert E. Gritton of Russellville, Ark.; four daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Evelyn) Elliott, Mrs. Carl (Vivian) Irvin, Mrs. Vernon (Margaret) Webb and Mrs. Clifford (Marjorie) Hintermeister, all of Muscatine; two brothers, Elmer and Joseph Gritton, both of Aledo; one sister, Mrs. Wesley (Pearl) Norton of Joy, 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, two brothers and two sisters.

    Mrs. Eunice Gritton, 63, of 185 Sherman street, died at 4:04 a.m. today at Bellevue hospital, after an extended illness. The body was taken to the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert Goebel, pastor of the First Christian church in charge. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery.
    Mrs. Gritton was born March 18, 1895, at Joy, Ill., the daughter of Theodore and Mary Person Matthews. She had been a resident of Muscatine for the past 30 years, coming here from New Boston. Her marriage to Lewis Gritton took place Oct. 15, 1914, at Burlington. She was a member of the First Christian church.
    Survivors include her husband; three sons, Dr. Charlie Gritton, Henderson, Ky., Paul Gritton, Ft. Dodge, and Robert E. Gritton, Muscatine; four daughters, Mrs. E.L. Elliott, Mrs. Carl Irwin, Mrs. Vernon Webb and Mrs. Clifford Hintermeister, Muscatine; one sisters, Mrs. Nellie Diehl, New Boston; and 16 grandchildren.
    Her parents and one half-sister preceded her in death.

    Retired Farmer Succumbs to Year's Illness; Funeral Will Be Tomorrow.
    Joy, Ill., Aug. 15 - (Argus News Service) - Edward P. Gritton, age 81, died at his home yesterday afternoon. He had been in failing health for a year.
    Mr. Gritton was born April 20, 1858, in Marion, Iowa, a son of Levi and Elizabeth Gritton. He married Sarah Caroline Minteer in Aledo, Sept. 13, 1883.
    They have lived in Joy for 17 years following their retirement from a Mercer farm. Mr. Gritton was a member of the Modern Woodmen.
    Surviving are the widow; four sons, Glenn and Elmer of Aledo, Lewis of Muscatine, Iowa, and Joseph of New Boston; two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Dorsett of Joy and Mrs. Pearl Norton of New Boston; a brother, Norman of Tipton, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Boyles of Joy. A daughter, Nellie and son, Clarence, preceded him in death.
    The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Joy Methodist church, with Elder Vanderwood of the Latter Day Saints church, Rock Island, officiating, assisted by the Rev. A.H. Dickinson, pastor of the Joy Methodist church. Burial will be in the Millersburg cemetery.

    Sarah Gritton Dies At Home In Joy Sunday
    Hold Funeral services Today rom Mercer Native, 84
    Mrs. Edward P. Gritton, 84, died at her home at Joy, Sunday, Jan. 21, 1945. She suffered a paralytic stroke Friday morning, Jan. 19.
    The former Miss Sarah Catherine Minteer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Minteer, was born near Joy, Feb. 5, 1860. She was married to Edward P. Gritton, Sept. 13, 1883. Her husband passed away Aug. 14, 1939.
    Life Resident
    She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a lifelong resident of Mercer county with the exception of a little over a year, when she lived in Iowa. For the last 22 years she as lived in Joy.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Dorsett and Mrs. Pearl Norton of Joy; four sons, Glen L. and Elmer of Aledo; Lewis of Muscatine and Joseph of New Boston; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She has six grandsons in the service.
    Last of Family
    A daughter a son preceded her in death. Nellie E., Dec. 21, 1902 and Clarence, Feb. 23, 1936. Mrs. Gritton was the last of a family of six children.
    Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Latter day Saints church at Joy and burial was in Millersburg cemetery.
    Pallbearers were six nephews, Lyle Minteer, Joe and Fred Garmer, Harlie Brown and Marion and Charles Pearson. Mrs. Lavella Minteer sand, accompanied by Mrs. Marjorie Holmes. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Lillian Morrow and Mrs. Bessie Retherford.
