    Obituary from Find a Grave
STORES CLOSED FOR FUNERAL RITES OF EARL L. RIFFE-
"Earl Riffe, life time resident and retired business man of Craig and Mound City succumbed to hearts disease late last Friday night at his home in Mound City.
Mrs. Riffe found his body on the dining room floor when she arose to prepare breakfast Saturday morning.
Mr. Riffe often got up during the night to read when he had difficulty sleeping. Sometime about midnight Friday night he got up to read so Mrs. Riffe thought nothing of it. When she got up Saturday morning she found his body on the floor near his chair where he had been reading.
Earl Lewis Riffe, son of W. Louis and Emma Woodyard Riffe was born October 20, 1884 at Craig, and passed away at his home in Mound City November 25, 1950, aged 66 years, 1 month and 5 days.
His early boyhood days were spent in Craig where he formed many war friendships which were a source of pleasure throughout his life.
In his youth he united with the Presbyterian Church at Craig. He was graduated from the Craig High School and later from Baker University at Baldwin, Kansas.
He and his father were engaged in a general merchandise business at Craig. Later in 1916 he moved with the family to Mound City, where he and his father were engaged in the hardware business, continuing in this until 1938 when he was forced to retire because of failing health.
May 3, 1927 he was united in marriage with Miss Carolyn Ruth hale of Bedford, Ia. He is survived by his widow and two sisters, Mrs. H.A. Reeder (Nellie) and Mrs. Max Pierce (Louise) both of Stockton, New York.
He belonged to the Craig Lodge No. 606 A.F. and A.M. having been a member for forty years.
He was quiet and reserved, enjoying the calls and visits of friends in his home. During the years of inactivity and illness he kept up interest in outside affairs. He was always patient and cheerful being hopeful to the last. But the long years valiantly spent in trying to regain his health proved too much for a tired weak heart.
In passing he leaves many relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted from the Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Tuesday, November 28, with Rev. Joseph Bruce in charge. William Porter, accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Jess Porter at the piano sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Lead Kindly Light."
Tom Ward Jr., Wayne Sharp and Everett Thomson of Craig, Edwin Crouse, Russell Mann and John Hatch of Mound City were active pallbearers.
Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery."
