    Centrali, July 27. - is Bertha Gritton, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gritton and Mitchell Gallop, son of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Gallop, and Miss Helen Roberts, daughter of Mrs. William Russell, and Harry Bugg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Newman Bugg, were married in a double wedding ceremony in Pittsfield, Ill, July 13, and the marriage was kept secret until it came to friends and relatives here from a friend of the brides and bridegrooms in Pittsfield.
    Both brides have been employed as telephone operators in the local office of the Missouri Telephone Company for the past several years. All of the contracting parties have relatives in Moberly, among whom is Ray Gritton, an employe of the Mechanics bank, a brother of Mrs. Gallop. They will continue to make their homes in Centralia, where Mr. Gallop is employed with the Chance Manufacturing Co, and Mr. Bugg as the M.J. McDonald Furniture and Undertaking Co.


    Mrs. Bertha Gallop Dies
    Mrs. Bertha Gritton Gallop, 25, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gritton, in this city Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock after an illness of several months. Deceased was educated in this city, was married last July 13 to Mitchell Gallop, who survives. Other survivors are her parents, one sister, Mrs. Hazel Kempster, of Kansas City, and five brothers, Roy, Ralph and Earl, Jr., of the home, Ray, of Moberly, and Chester, of Chicago. Funeral and burial will take place in this city.

    Earl S. Gritton Dies; Long-Time Resident
    Earl Simpson Gritton, 76, a Centralia resident for 48 years, died early Thursday morning, Feb. 21, at Audrain Hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 4.
    The son of Charles and Georgia Dry Gritton, he was born in Monroe County on May 14, 1880. On Feb. 23, 1902, he was married in Moberly to Miss Myrtle Jones of near Paris. They lived on a farm near Tulip, then in September 1908 moved to Centralia.
    Mr. Gritton was employed as a grocery clerk by Patterson Bros. & Crews for ten or twelve years and was later a baggageman for the Wabash Railroad station here about eighteen years, until an operation in February 1936 led to retirement. He then engaged in carpentry when health and age permitted.
    Mr. Gritton was a member of the Christian Church and had been a deacon and a member of the board. He also belonged to the Modern Woodmen of American and Odd Fellow Lodges.
    He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Kempster, Kansas City, Kan.; and five sons, Ray, Moberly, Chester, Minneapolis, Minn., Earl S. Jr., Ralph and Roy, Centralia; a brother, Finley Gritton, Oklahoma City, Okla. three sisters, Mrs. Essie Alexander, Mexico, Mrs. Jewell Ball and Mrs. Gladys McBride, Centralia; and nine grandchildren.
    A daughter, Mrs. Bertha Gallip, died in 1936. Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Mrs. Rose Woodson, Mrs. Stella Aajker, Mrs. Marie Brandon, a brother, Frank Gritton, and a granddaughter in infancy.
    Funeral services were at the First Christian Church at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. W. Marion Rowlen, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Centralia Cemetery.
    The body was in state at the Meador Funeral Home.

    Rites Yesterday for Mrs. Earl Gritton, Sr.
    Mrs. Myrtle Frances Gritton, 80 years of age, the widow of Early Gritton Sr., died early Monday morning, Jan. 20, at the Audrain Hospital in Mexico where she had been a patient since Sunday morning. She was the last member of a family of three brothers and four sisters.
    She was born May 13, 1883 in Monroe County, Mo., the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Patterson Jones. On Feb. 23, 1902 she was married to Earl Simpson Gritton, Sr., who preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1957.
    The Gritton family moved to Centralia in 1908. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in church activities. She was a member of the Sarah Group of the Christian Women's Fellowship.
    She is survived by six children, five sons and a daughter. They are Ray of Moberly; Mrs. Hazel Kempster, Kansas City, Kansas; Chester, Minneapolis, Minn., Roy of Kansas City, Kansas and his twin brother, Ralph of the home and Earl Gritton, Jr., Centralia. There are also nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren surviving.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Gallip, in 1936.
    Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 22 at the First Christian Church. Rev. Donald E. Mattson, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Fletcher Dodson, past of the Allen Street Methodist Church, offiated at the services.
    Burial was in the Centralia Cemetery.
    The body was in state at the Meador Funeral Home until the hour of the services.

    Chas. Gritton, aged 57 years, two months and 15 days, died at his home near Tulip Saturday, October 12th and was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place October 14th. Mr. Gritton had been in poor health for some time and the end was not unexpected. He was a good man and a fine neighbor and his loss will be keenly felt by his neighbors and his large circle of friends. The family have our sincere sympathy in their great loss.

    Mrs. Charles Gritton Died Wednesday
    Mrs. Charles Gritton, life-long resident of this community, died Wednesday morning, July 24, at 6:40 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Larry McBride of north of Centralia, after a few days' illness. She was 83 years of age.
    Mr. Gritton was born Georgie Dry in Monroe County, north of Centralia, April 21, 1846, and spent her entire life in that vicinity. She was married to Charles Gritton, who preceded her in death by several years.
    Surviving relatives are three sons and four daughter and they are Finn Gritton of Oklahoma, Mrs. Tom Akers of Long Beach, Calif., Earl Gritton of Centralia, Frank Gritton of Madison, Mrs. Larry McBride, Mrs. Ernest Ball, and Mrs. Homer Alexander of north of Centralia. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. I.G. Noel of Centralia and Mrs. Aaron Hulen of Slater.
    Mrs. Gritton was a member of the church at Tulip and was known by her many friends as a fine Christian mother.
    Funeral rites will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 at Tulip Church by Elder Egan Herndon. Burial will be made in the city cemetery.
