Prominent Ogden Citizen Dies After Very
Brief Illness-Stricken in Forenoon
Dies in Evening.
Ogden Courier
Friday, February 6, 1920, page 1

Our citizens were pained and shocked Saturday evening late to learn that our esteemed fellow citizen, Douglas E. Helton, had passed away. He was sick only a few hours, being stricken at 11:00 o’clock Saturday forenoon and died at 9:00 p. m. He was about town Saturday morning and at his place of business. He accompanied his partner Mr. Jay Freese, to Royal to help prepare the body of Mr. Luther Tillotson for burial. While working here he was suddenly taken ill and so remarked to Mr. Freese. Later he was removed to his house here and everything possible that loving hands and medical skill could do was done to save his life, but all to no avail. Mr. Helton was a man among men¾a man that we all loved, because of his kindly nature and good will to his fellow man. He was a public spirited citizen and always ready to boost for anything that meant a better town and community in which to live. He was interested in his town, his people and its public enterprises, always being among the first to help toward the starting of anything that he thought was good and right to be done in the community.
He was a jeweler b y profession and had conducted a jewelry store her for years. He was also associated with Mr. Jay Freese in the undertaking business.
The entire community mourns his sudden demise and joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.

579 Eli Gebhart's death certificate gives Bretheran Cemetery, Hagerstown, Indiana as location of burial. I could not find a listing for him on Find a Grave. However, there is a church now known as Brick Church Cemetery that was formerly known as Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery that has other members of a Gebhart family buried there including Lewis Gebhart who's dates match as possibly his father. Also his mother Nancy (Rinhart) Gebhart's death certificate gives her place of burial as the German Baptist Cemetery, Hagerstown which is yet another name for this same cemetery. Gebhart, Eli (I3631)

596 Escapes From County Jail By Picking Locks On Window
Leland Carpenter last night proved himself to be a very ingenious gentleman.
Using nothing but a piece of teaspoon and a short piece of wire, he picked two locks, securing the barred widow of his cell in the county jail, lowered himself to the roof of the small porch on the east side, and dropped 15 feet to the ground. This happened some time last night and thus far there is no trace of the fugitive. He left the instruments used in making his escape, but carried the locks away with him.
Carpenter, who is charged with bigamy, was confined in the debtors cell, which is a room by itself on the eat side of the upper corridor. He was thus isolated because of being afflicted with a loathsome blood disease. It was the same cell in which John Christmus, colored wife murderer, spent his last days before being executed in October, 1921.
Sheriff Gray this morning, mailed out a description of the fugitive to police of all neighboring cities. Here it is: Age, 19; height, five feet 6 1/2 inches; complexion, fair; hair, dark brown; tip of middle finger on left hand missing; occupation, automobile mechanic; wore gray carp, ligh shirt, dark gray trousers and black Oxfords.
