    The Coconino Sun. 28, October 1899.
    Death Of Fletcher Fairchild
    Fletcher Fairchild died at the Territorial Insane Asylum on Sunday morning, the 22nd inst.,and was buried at Phoenix on Monday. Mr. Fairchild had been in failing health for two years past and had been gradually failing.
    On August 16 he was adjudged insane and was sent to the asylum. He was elected sheriff of this county at the last election, but was never able to assume the duties of the office, though he qualified and was nominally sheriff until August 16.
    He was a native of Illinois, but his life was spent in the west, and in every place he resided he had served as a peace officer. He came to Arizona from New Mexico about sixteen years ago, and nearly all that time held an appointment under the sheriff. He was a popular and efficient official and won a reputation as an officer who never let his man escape. Deceased was about 48 years of age and leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss.

    Funeral services for Edwin F. Clipson will be held at 10 o’clock this morning in the chapel at 716 North State street. Mr. Clipson died on Wednesday. He was a former newspaper man. He was associated with Western Newspaper Union for a number of years and was former financial secretary of the Press Club of Chicago. He was born in Danville, Ill., 67 years ago.

    Frank P. Fairchild, was born at Fort Davis, Texas in 1884 to Fletcher and Pearl Fairchild and came to Coconino County at the age of three years.
    Frank was named for both his grandfathers, Franklin and Perry.
    Frank, lived until Oct. 24th 1957. As a young man. He worked as a cowhand for the CO Bar Ranch and later, he spent some of his life as a deputy sheriff, following his fathers profession. He was deputy Sheriff under Thomas E. Pulliam and Bill Dickinson.
    Frank married Rosamond O. Black, on the 23rd of Apr. 1913 in Flagstaff, Coconino, Az. At the time of his death he was married to a woman named Lillian. He had a daughter, Grace who's married name was Gilmore, who at the time of his death had two children, Linda and Allan Gilmore.
    Frank was listed on his step-mother Mary's obituary in December 1949 as living in Miami.
    Mr. Fairchild also was a state penitentiary guard at Florence for two years and spent 15 years as captain of the outside guards at the Inspiration Copper Mine where he lived until a year before he died, then he moved to Phoenix.
    Mr. Fairchild died at his home, 3523 W. Portland, Phoenix AZ.
    Funeral services were held at 11:A.M. in Mortensen Kingsley Mortuary, 1020 W. Washington, Phoenix AZ. He was buried in Greenwood Memorial Park.

    "From Wickenburg comes news which will occasion universal sorrow in this community, the death of Mrs. Anna Miller being announced as occurring there on Dec. 23, 1918, from influenza pneumonia. She will be remembered as a resident of this city for many years.
    The wife of William Miller an engineer of S.F.P. & P., who until a short time ago was assigned to this division of the road. To add more sorrow to this home, Mr. Miller is ill with this affliction, while the nurse also has been stricken, two small baby girls are left motherless and the once happy home is clouded by that sorrow which is inconsolable.
    Mrs. Miller enjoyed a large acquaintance in this section, having also many friends who will regret that one so young and of such a pleasing personality should be called away. The funeral was held at Wickenburg on December 24th. The attendance was large, reflecting on the estimable character of the deceased."

    Iris Jean Engell, 89, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Fairfield, Calif.
    Iris was born to Thomas and Mabel Eakins in Hammon, Okla., the middle child of nine brothers and sisters. She was a longtime resident of Fairfield, Calif.
    As a young girl fresh out of high school, Iris began her career during World War II as an FAA radio operator at Tinker Air Field in Oklahoma. During a trip to California, she met the love of her life, married and settled in as a homemaker until the death of her husband in 1960. Taking this life change in her stride, she began her career at Intercommunity Hospital (now NorthBay Medical Center) in Fairfield, Calif., as the business office manager. Upon her retirement in 1984, Iris enjoyed gardening, bird watching, writing, discussing politics, the Oakland Athletics, musicals and spending time with her family, especially her grandson.
    Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Alan.
    Survivors include her daughter, Lynn (Marvin) McCormick; grandson, Michael McCormick; sisters, Fran Sutherlin and Ramona Eakins; brother, James Eakins. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Arlene Reynolds, and brother-in-law, Gary Engell; and many nieces and nephews.
    Aged 89 years.

    She was born June 28, 1924, in Long Beach, Calif., to John and Iva Van Deren Fairchild. She married Robert Leonard Humfeld on May 7, 1943, in Long Beach, Calif. He died Nov. 10, 1993.
    She was a graduate of Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif. She was a homemaker.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mary Riggs of Eugene; a son, Gary of Gualala, Calif.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
