151 Bro. Dean “Pap” Carpenter, 92 of Mt. Vernon, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 surrounded by his family at home. He was born in Jackson County, KY on June 29, 1929 the son of Charlie and Letha Cole Carpenter. He was a minister of the Gospel for over 50 years. He was a pastor and evangelist for the Kingdom leading many to Christ over the years. He was an avid musician, playing any stringed instrument, especially his guitar. His gift of playing and singing was enjoyed by many. He was a proud US Army veteran who loved gardening, fishing in the Rockcastle River, riding around the block, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his granddaughters, Patricia McGuire and husband Tim of Brodhead, and Kelly McClure of Mt. Vernon. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Chase McGuire and wife Samantha of Mt. Vernon, and Caymen McClure and wife Shelby of Brodhead. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tesaleen; a daughter, Judy Croucher; two brothers, Bill and Everett; and a sister, Virgie Ferguson.

Funeral services for Bro. Carpenter will be conducted Saturday, January 1 at 1:00 PM at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Lonnie McGuire with music by Jason Medley. Burial will follow in the Morning View Cemetery. Friends may call at Dowell & Martin Funeral Home after 11:00 AM Saturday.

Hamilton – Brown W. Reynolds, 71, died Thursday in his home south of Hamilton of an apparent heart attack.
He was born in 1911 in Cow Creek, Ky., to William and Emma Reynolds.
The family moved to Ohio and later came to Montana, where he received his formal education. He worked for Bitterroot Stock Farm in Hamilton and later moved to Anaconda where he was employed at the smelter. He then moved to Washington where he worked for a utility and later for Boeing Aircraft.
In 1950 he entered evangelism and worked with youth. He retired from teaching in 1966.
He married Dorothy Nerada in Canada in 1967. The couple lived in Oregon, Washington, Canada and moved to Hamilton in 1977.
Mr. Reynolds drove a school bus for the Hamilton school system until November. He attended the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roger, Billings; and Phillip, Butte; two half-brothers, Morris Cole, in Kentucky, and Meredith Cole, in California’ a half-sister, Melinda Speaks, in Kentucky; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton with the Revs. David Delgatty and Richard Knapp officiating.
Cowling Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.

Retired employee of Frigidaire after 31 years of service; Army Air Force Veterans of WWII, in which he was a prisoner of war; part District Fire Chief of Miami Twp.; member of Miamisburg Moose Lodge; American Legion Post #165; and Kettering VFW. Survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Michael F. & Barbara L. 159 Burgess B. Martin’s Funeral Held Today
Crab Orchard, Ky., May 9 (Special) – Funeral services for Burgess B. Martin, 64, a farmer of Route 1, Brodhead, who died Sunday while fishing on Dix River about three miles east of here, were conducted at 1:30 o’clock this afternoon at Howard Funeral Home here by the Rev. Bill Hamilton and the Rev. H.L. Ponder. Burial was in Buffalo Springs cemetery at Stanford.
Deputy Coroner Carl Speaks said Mr. Martin apparently died of a heart attack.
He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a native of Lincoln county.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bernece Ponder Martin; two sons, Bennie and Quinten Martin, Cincinnati; two brothers, Edward Martin, Dermatt, Ark., and Harrison Martin, McKinney; two sisters, Mrs. Bertie Worley, Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Bershie Bartlett, Stanford, and three grandchildren.

173 Butch, as he was known to all family and friends, died unexpectedly in his sleep in the early morning hours of March 1, 2013. He leaves behind the love of his life, Kristen Ruiz; his brother, Edwin Kratzer and his wife Teresa; his sister, Colleen Steckel and her husband David; niece, Jenn Malvaez and her husband Christian; nephew, Andrew Burnett and his wife Amy; niece, Sara Kratzer; nephew, Kyle Kratzer; niece, Kayla Steckel; grand-nephew, Kohner Kratzer; and grand-niece, Sara Rocio Malvaez. Butch is predeceased by his parents, George and Edwina Meitzen.

He will be missed, especially by those he spoiled the most – his cats, his fish and Homer.

Butch was well known for the exquisite wood clocks he made and for his love of music – composing and producing a number of pieces from his self-built electronic music system. He proudly served eight years in the Army, mostly overseas, where he reached the rank of E5. He also obtained a master's degree in electrical engineering and taught at Heald College in Portland for several years. Butch loved Cubs baseball, bowling and golf. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, holding several positions, including Leading Knight and Exalted Ruler.

175 Camden Man Killed By Log At West Alex Sawmill
Camden, Ohio – A Camden man, Gerald L. Wilmot, 37, 205 South Lafayette St., died Saturday afternoon from injuries suffered while unloading logs at the Green Saw Mill, one mile south of West Alexandria.
Preble County Coroner Dr. Richard F. Siehl said Wilmot died from head injuries and that death was instantaneous. Wilmot also had a fractured right leg.
Wilmot and his son-in-law, Kenneth Shannon, 19, also of 205 South Lafayette st., were hauling logs from the Horace Kuikendoll farm, south of here, to the saw mill.
Shannon told Preble County sheriff’s authorities that Wilmot had released a chain boom tied around the logs on a flatbed truck. One of the logs rolled off the truck and struck Wilmot in the head, knocking him to the ground.
Wilmot, also a former Eaton resident, was a veteran of the Korean War and an employe of Frigidaire Corp., in Dayton. He did logging in his spare time.
Survivors include the widow, Doris Jean; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Wilmot of Camden; three daughters, Mrs. Pamela Denise Shannon of Camden and Kimberly Ann and Melissa Jean, both at home; one grandchild; seven sisters, Mrs. Vera Whitt of Middletown, Mrs. Reba Apple of Westchester, Mrs. Marie Lunsford and Mrs. Anna Bell Adams, both of Blanchester; Mrs. Ruby Rieger of Farmersville, Mrs. Donna Roby of Kokomo, Ind., and Mrs. Martha Gabbard of Camden; six brothers, James Cornett of Shoals, Ins., Benton Wilmot of Torrence, Calif.; Grand and Charles Wilmot, both of Middletown, and Earl and Franklin Wilmot, both of Trenton.
Services for Mr. Wilmot will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes Funeral Home in Eaton with Rev. Daryl Lane officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Sheriff Fred Stamper is unable to learn reason, he asserts
Campton, Ky., June 30 – (AP) – John Clair and Arlie Hatton were held in the Wolfe county jail here today under charges of murder following their surrender to Sheriff Fred Stamper who said they made the simple statement they had killed R. Boyd Stamper, 40, a prisoner who fell in a surprise rain of bullets in front of his home.
Stamper had gone to his home, with Clark county officers, to visit his children, the sheriff said.
His body was :simply riddled” with bullets, the sheriff said.
He was unable to give any reason for the shooting.

180 Careless smoking caused deadly fire
Hamilton – A fire that killed a Hamilton woman and destroyed her home Aug. 23 was caused by careless smoking, Fire Chief Lyle Moore said Monday.
Edith Nipper, 78, died in the fire, which officials have ruled accidental. The Brookcrest drive house is a total loss and the damage estimate was placed at $120,000.

Carl Clinton Marcum, 63, of St. Paul died Dec. 25 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Cass the son of Cornelius and Clara Opal Cooper Marcum. He serviced in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a graduate of Arkansas Technological University. He was a retired school teacher.
Survivors include two brothers, Glen Marcus and Howard Marcus, both of Lompoc, Calif.; and his step-mother, Mrs. Rosie Marcum of Westville, Okla.
Services were Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1982, at the Bible Church at St. Paul with the Rev. Sam Judd officiating. Burial was at Brashears Switch Cemetery under the direction of the Nelson’s Funeral Home.

Carl “Rosie” M. Greer, 71, Attica, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Thursday, March 19, 2015.
Carl was born in Williamsport, Indiana, on May 7, 1943. He was a life resident of Attica and attended Attica High School.
Carl formerly worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica for 43 years and following his retirement began working at C&D Battery in Attica for the Pinkerton Security Company.
Carl was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Attica. He was a die-hard Indiana University sports fan and a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He especially enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On May 16, 1964, Carol married Linda Lou Mitton in Attica. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2007.
He leaves behind three daughters, Kristy (Mike) Grogan, Independence; Karla (Kevin) Tippy, Lafayette and Bobbi (Bill) Christenberry, Independence; two sons, Mike Greet, Dickson, TN and Ricky (fiancée Kim Sible) Greer, Attica; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George (Lois) Greer, Lafayette; Bobby Gene (Rhoda) Greer and Louis (Janet) Greer, both of West Point; three sisters, Willadene “Bo” Short, Frankfort; Pauline Phelps and Rosie (Robert) Long, both of Lafayette. He was precede in death by a sister, Janie Wirth.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, March 24th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 25th, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Lange officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Let us celebrate the Lord, as our mom, Carol Ann Obermeier, answered His Call on Tuesday November 10th.
Born March 5th, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; her parents, Frank and June Mockler; her brother, Bill Mockler, and her sister, Joyce Fasilis.
As an active member of St. Francis de Sales parish, she left a legacy of love and caring that touched the hearts of all those who knew here, in the last few years at home at Chapel Hill community, she was a servant of god holding a weekly rosary ministry and assisting whenever in need.
Carol set at example for her family as a model mother and homemaker. She was a glorious example of christ’s love and left a strong foundation of faith in her daughters, Pam Obermeier Schott (Steve), Michelle Obermeier Wilson (John); and sons, Don (Barbara), and Keith (Jeanne); grandchildren, Matt, Coleen, Gretchen, Megan, Rebecca, Beth, Katie, Emilio, Manny and Olivia; and sister, Jan Shafer. Carol also leaves behind so many close friends and extended family, all who will miss her dearly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, Saturday, Nov 14th at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with inurnment to be scheduled at a later date. Calling hours will be at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (Rt 619) Friday, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 am.m until 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join us in praying the rosary Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

She was the mother of Norman Brock and wife Tonya of East Bernstadt, Kentucky and Sherry Goodall and husband Tim of London, Kentucky; the sister of Eva McWhorter and husband Conley and Eddie Murray and wife Anna all of Annville, Kentucky, Geneva King of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, Kenneth Murray and wife Eileen of London, Kentucky, Wallace Murray and wife Margaret of Monticello, Kentucky, and Loretta Banks and husband Clarence of Dayton, Ohio. She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Jordan Brock, Bryson Brock, Brody Brock, Jarrett Goodall, and Lyndsey Goodall. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cannon and Phronia (Nantz) Murray; by her siblings, Glenn Murray, Johnny Murray, and Esie Mae Jones.

Hedrick, IA. - Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Chapel Open Bible Church in Ottumwa for Carroll E. Loper, 82, of Hedrick, who died of cancer Monday at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Booneville Cemetery.

Mr. Loper, who retired after 23 years as an inspector for International Harvester, was born in Eagleview, Mo. and lived in Des Moines, Mo., and lived in Des Moines for 58 years until moving here in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, a son, Bruce of Des Moines; a brother, Willard of Newton; three sisters, Myrtle Evans of Wakee, Isabell Dunbar of Des Moines and Alberta Forrett of Adel; a grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.

189 Casper Spivey, 74, of Livingston died March 17, 1989 at Pattic A. Clay Hospital in Richmond.

He was born Sept. 21, 1915 in Rockcastle County, the son of Samuel and Clista Mahaffey Spivey and was a retired coal miner and a member of the Morning View Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Spivey of Livingston and two sisters, Bertha Terry of Cincinnati, Ohio and Tessilene Carpenter of Livingston.

Services were March 19 at Morning View Holiness Church by Bro. Billy Medley. Burial was in the Bales Cemetery.

Dowell and Marin Funeral Home was in Charge of Arrangements.

Pallbearers were Jack Edwards, John Edwards, Larry Ponder, Jackie Ponder, Darrell Alcorn, Glen Parker and Paul Rowe.

Oxford, Ohio – Charles C. Kidwell, 64, 514 Sandra Drive, died Thursday at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Kentucky and had lived in the Oxford area since 1950. He was a longtime employee of Hueston Woods State Park.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie; three daughters, Wanda Behrens of McLean, Va., Carolyn White of Oxford and Brenda Watson of Dayton; six grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral service for Charles C. Kidwell will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Marshall Smith Funeral Home, 101 W. Church st., where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Somerville cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church or to the Charles Kidwell Memorial Fund in care of Oxford View Nursing Home.

West Liberty – Charles D. Moore, 51, Dayton, Ohio, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday at his residence. He was a native of Wolfe County and a member of the Ezel Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Antioch Shrine.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elma Moore; his mother, Mrs. Elsie Moore, Hazel Green; two sisters, Mrs. Golden Wheeler, Grassy Creek, and Mrs. Ruby Brewer, Dayton, Ohio, and a brother, Paul Moore, Hazel Green.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hazel Green Christian Church by Dr. Gabriel Banks, the Rev. Carl Faulkner and the Rev. Oliver Mason. Burial will be in the Hazel Green Cemetery. The body will be brought to the Potter Funeral Home here at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Hamilton – Funeral services for Charles H. Reynolds, 77, who died Monday in a Hamilton hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Dowling Chapel. Pastor Robert Nickell will officiate and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Reynolds was born May 24, 1897, in Boonevile, Ky. He married Lennie Brandenberg Nov. 7, 1925, in Foster, Ohio. He worked as a mail carrier for many years and when he retired in 1943 moved to Hamilton. Reynolds was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. His wife preceded him in death Aug. 27, 1972.
Survivors include a son, Raymond, Hamilton; a daughter, Mrs. Reba Falk, Hamilton; two brothers, John Reynolds, Maineville, Ohio, and Will Reynolds, Hamilton; a sister, Grace Marshall, Loveland, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charlie Kelly Walker, a retired engineer for the Kentucky State Highway Department, died at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Infirmary. Walker, 66, lived at 1327 Ellison.

Survivors include his wife, the former Louise Kaiser; a daughter, Mrs. Loutillie Rickert, Peekskill, N.Y., and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pearson's, 1310 S. Third. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.

He lived in West Memphis, AR for the past 20 plus years. He leaves behind 4 daughters, Tammy Lovell Jewell, Karen Lovell Hicks, Monica Lovell, Kellie Lovell and 2 sons, Darryl Lovell and Charles (Chuck) Lovell.

197 Charles W. Kratzer, Sr., 52, of Warren street died at his home Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. He had been ill with a heart aliment a year. Kratzer was a linotype operator for the Probert Typesetting company and was a member of Typographical union 57. He is survived by his wife, Mary; mother, Josephine; a son, Charles Kratzer, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Davis and Miss Margaret Kratzer, all of Dayton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Charles W. Moore funeral home. Rev. J. S. Altman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

198 Charley Shannon 94 of Richmond went to be with the Lord November 13, 2010 at Reid Hospital October 20, 1916 in Prichard, West Virginia to Thomas F. and Melinda Smith Shannon and lived in Richmond most of his life.

Charley formerly worked for Avco, Lee Cylinder, retiring from Johns-Manville. He was an Army veteran of World War Two serving in North Africa, Italy, and Germany; receiving five bronze stars.

Survivors include two nieces Diane Norton and Anita (David) Abrams of Williamsburg, one nephew Roger (Birtie) Casey of Milton, West Virginia, three great nieces Stephanie (Jonathan) Burdsall of Richmond,Joyce Wetherholt of Alabama, and Diana Whiclock of West Virginia, two great nephews Tim Abrams of Greenville, Ohio and Todd Abrams of Williamsburg, three great-great nephews Matthew and Colton Abrams, and Treyton Burdsall.

His sister-in-laws Glenna (Larry) Marker of Eldorado, Ohio and Kathy (Chuck) Yincer of Richmond, brother-in-laws William Ponder and Bennett (Lorene) Ponder of Kentucky.

He is preceded in death by his wife Eva in 1993, his parents; four sisters Alma Hager, Leona Sherrow, Jeannette Helmsing, and Mabel Casey, and two brothers Allen and Thomas Shannon.

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Wednesday November 17, 2010 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Baker and Rev. W.H. Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie Moore; a daughter, Mrs. Jhn Harris, Winchester; a son, Cpl. Paul Moore, Fort Knox; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Moore, Campton, and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Moore, Campton, and Mrs. James Oliver, Royal Oak, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Campton Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Howard Parker and the Rev. Mr. Murrell. Burial will be in the Evans Cemetery near Campton. The body will be taken from the Hearne Funeral Home here to the residence on Bear Pen Saturday afternoon.
