- LKH note:
Find a Grave links James to his parent as John Osborne and Sarah Stewart. And documents his burial with a photo of his headstone.
A note on Find a Grave states his parents were Solomon Osborne and Mary Stewart. And states that he is supposedly buried in Bryant Cemetery.
I have been unable to find documentation of which parentage is correct.
It does appear to be certain that Ruth Osborne, b. 1799, North Carolina, was in Champaign County, Illinois in the 1850 census with seven children: Solomon, b.1816 Indiana; Clarissa, b.1830 Illinois; Noah, b.1832, Illinois; Julia, b. 1834, Illinois; Jonathan, b. 1837, Illinois; Martha, b. 1829, Illinois; and Elmira, b. 1841, Illinois.
Ruth appears in the 1860 census with son Jonathan and his wife Martha. Find a Grave gives her death in 1871.
