Rufus and Mastin was to provide her a place to live.
I did not find Rufus in any census for 1850 but I found him in 1860 Rock Island County, Illinois. He must of been in Indiana, as some of his children said they were born in Indiana.

On Jan 3 1867 Rock Island County, Illinois, Daily Union was a petition for sale of Real Estate. Notice is hearby given that Thomas A. Wray, Admininistrator of the Estate of Rufus Brewer, Late of said Rock Island County,Illinois deceased has lately filed in the County Court of said County his certain Petition against, Recksearey Brewer, David K. Brewer, Martha Jane Brewer, William H Boyer, Amelia Boyer, Aaron Brewer, Edward O'Brien, Mary Jane O'Brien, Nancy Elizabeth Brewer, Rachel L C Brewer, Colonel S. H. Brewer, Sarah Ann Augusta Brewer, James L. Brewer, Athaline Brewer, Thomas Isaiah Brewer, and Jane Elizabeth Brewer, Defendants and Heirs at law of the said Rufus Brewer deceased. Dated the 15 August 1866. In a letter from Mr. Wray dated July 1866 said that Sarah Ann Augusta was the wife of Colonel Stephen Hale Brewer, Martha Jane was the wife of David Kinamon Brewer, Athaline was the wife of James Lewis Brewer, Jane Elizabeth was the wife of Thomas Isah Brewer. This is the names
of all the wife's of the sons of Rufus Brewer. Mary Jane O'Brien was in the Muscatine County, Iowa, 1900 census and she said her parents were born in Virginia.
My Father and g/father used to visit Mary Jane.
Armilda's obit was found in my g/mother's Bible and my father lived with her for awhile in Muscatine
County, Iowa. Armilda's Obit said she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Brewer.
