Nicholas B. 'Nick' Bowman was the son of Elijah Bowman and Elizabeth Gentry. Records indicate Nicholas was born in Lee County, Kentucky or Virginia around 1795-1799 depending upon the source.
Nicholas and Elizabeth (sometimes seen as Isabell) Moore, daughter of James and Ellender Hamilton Moore, married October 3, 1818 in Clay County, Kentucky. They became the parents of:
Isabell/Elizabeth Bowman Spencer (1820-1876)
Henry Clay Bowman (1822-1864)
Ellender Bowman Lawson (1824-?)
Lucinda Bowman Spencer (1826-1880)
Emoline Bowman Lawson (1827-1921)
John Wesley ‘Butler’ Bowman (1831-1899)
Marium Bowman Chambers (1833-1920)
Martha Bowman (1835-1853)
Deborah Jane ‘Deb’ Bowman Spencer (1838-1926)
Rachel Bowman Combs (1841-1924)
William Fletcher Bowman (1842-1863)
Nicholas last appears in the 1860 Census for Breathitt County, Kentucky. It is assumed he died shortly thereafter or at least before 1870. The death records for Breathitt County are not available for several years between 1860 and 1870. Some undocumented sources state that Nicholas and Isabel/Elizabeth are buried on the old farm about two mile up Lower Twin Creeks in Breathitt County.
