She was born March 28, 1923 in Potomac, the daughter of George Marion and Anna Myers Wise. She married Lloyd Gritton Sr. on Feb. 17, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1989. She later married Harrell Morlan on Dec. 1, 1992 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, a sister and eight brothers. Surviving are daughters, Pamela (Doc) Whiteman, Deborah Merrill and Sondra (Scott) Taylor; sons, Lloyd Jr. (Beverly) Gritton, A. Dennis Gritton and Shannon Burns; sister, Ruth Peers; sisters-in-law, Vera Mae Wise and M. Jewel Wise; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. While living in Peoria, she worked at Pabst Brewery. After moving to Hoopeston, she worked at Stokely's and TRW. She and her husband, Lloyd, later owned and operated Gritton's Marathon in Hoopeston for several years. She served in the United States Army from Dec. 7, 1944 to Dec. 17, 1945. | 4756 | Mary "Oletha" (Johnston) Seyfert, 96, rural Attica, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 1998 at her residence. She had been in failing health for several years. Born in Oakwood, Ill., Dec. 11, 1901, she was the daughter of John and Stella Oakwood Johnston. She married Albert Seyfert in 1921. She was the last grandchild of the founder of the town of Oakwood. She graduated from Oakwood High School. She lived in Oakwood until she moved to Danville in 1957. She moved to rural Attica in Warren County in 1986. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Osborne Prairie Church in Stone Bluff and was a past member of the O.E.S. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ceramics and music, playing the piano, immensely. She loved and enjoyed her family very much. Survivors include daughters Reita (William) Burroughs, Attica, Eleanor Bussey, Danville, Ill.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Lakeside Funeral Home, Oakwood, with the Rev. Jeff Newton officiating. | 4757 | Mary (Clearwater) Goodner Morrow, 91 of Danville, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 9:55 PM at her home. She was born May 9, 1924 in Rockville, Indiana, the daughter of Burch T. and Ada Marie (Brockway) Clearwater. She married Eugene E. Goodner on May 19, 1946 at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1972. Mary later married Hiram E. Morrow in 1990 at Farmer's Chapel and he preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Clearwater. Mary is survived by her loving children, Becky (Carl) Goodner Chambliss, John (Linda) Goodner, Jeff (Julie) Goodner, Steve (Sara) Goodner, Ellen (Jim) Russell and Scott (Barbara) Goodner; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren and an abundance of nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends who loved her dearly. Mary worked as a registered nurse at Lakeview Hospital and then went on to help even more patients as a nurse at Danville Manor. Even though she was an incredible nurse, she was an even better mother and always put her kids and family first. She was a member of Lakeview Alumni, AARP, and helped out with CRIS Meals on Wheels program. Mary had a deep faith in the Lord and was a past member of Farmer's Chapel, Central Christian Church and Northside Church of Christ in Bismarck, and current member of Covington Orchard Hills Church of Christ. | 4759 | Mary Ellen Edwards, 89, of Danville passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Hawthorne Inn. She was born the daughter of Raymond Turner and Wilma Thompson Turner on June 22, 1929. They preceded her in death. Mary was married to Robert Edwards for 68 years until his passing in 2015. Surviving Mary are one son, Thomas (Vickie) Edwards of Danville; two grandchildren, Craig (Shelly) Edwards of Oakwood and Kim (Vince) Savage of Danville; five great grandchildren, Sadie Edwards, Tyler Knight, Abbie Knight, Andy Savage, and Thomas Savage and one brother, Jim (Muriel) Turner of Logansport, Indiana. Mary worked for most of her life. She was a member in the Christian Women’s Association as well as in the Vermilion County Society of Churches of Christ. She was also a member of Old Union Church of Christ and Crossroads Christian Church. Mary was co-owner of Myles Young Food Brokers. After retirement she was church secretary for 19 years. During her free time, she loved reading, watching the Hallmark channel, and spending time with family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed dearly by her family and the people that loved her. Born September 27th, 1933 in Champaign, IL to Omar and Winnie Irvin, she married Earl Moore, Jr. in 1952. Together they raised four boys. She's quoted as saying, "I've had the best of both worlds." In her time, Mary Ellen enjoyed extensive world travel and made her home in Illinois, the West Coast, New England, Colorado, Iowa, Libya, Malta, and Maryland. She loved to read and was a life-long learner. She taught herself to speak Arabic so she could haggle with Libyan shopkeepers. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1981 to begin a career in Interior Design for the Veterans Administration in Knoxville, IA, then, in 1990, was selected to lend her talents to a new VA Hospital being finished in Baltimore, MD that won her national recognition. After a 20 year career, she retired in 2003. She is survived by a brother and sister, Charles Irvin of Rantoul, IL and Pauline Kingston of Paxton, IL. Also by her sons, Dan in North Liberty, IA, Robin (Jedra) in Carlisle, IA, Randy in Michigan, Tracy (Lynette) of S. Jordan, UT and eight grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA. Mom lived life on her own terms and made growing up an adventure. Her compassion for others and her daring spirit have left a great legacy for us to remember. She touched countless lives, will be greatly missed, and prepared us well for "the next great adventure. "She was my Superhero! My touchstone! A mother first, best friend and confidante. The source, by her example, of my life's outlook and philosophies. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Irene Gottman and Phyllis McManus and four brothers, Homer, Oscar Lee, Robert Dale and William Clements. A Cannelton High School graduate, she and her first husband, Arthur Gerber Sr., owned and operated Marylane Theater in Evansville. She enjoyed boke riding, camping and collecting clown figures. Mary was born on January 19, 1931, in Danville, daughter of Kenneth and Hazel (Swisher) Goodner. She married Harry E. Shepherd Jr. on August 13, 1950, at Central Christian Church in Danville. He survives along with two children: Terry (Julie) Shepherd and Karen (Greg) Clapper both of Danville; brother Melvin Goodner and sisters-in-law Jo Ann Goodner and Mary Morrow, all of Danville; three grandchildren, Jill (Mike) Poggendorf of Danville, Cory Clapper of Elmhurst and Tyler Shepherd of Danville; two great-grandchildren, Elliana and Madison; as well as a close and large extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Marie; two brothers, Gene and Jack; sister-in-law, Bette; and her little angel, great-granddaughter Isabella. Mary enjoyed working in the yard, reading, keeping a journal, and the neighborhood kids from Harmon Avenue. But most of all she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, 3940 N. Mr. Hotsinpiller was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Dartmoor, W. Va., a son of Thomas and Martha Green Hotsinpiller. He married Wilma Cline on Dec. 1, 1939, in Covington, Ind. She survives. Survivors also include a son, Denny Hotsinpiller of Danville; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother. Mr. Hotsinpiller served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 as a staff sergeant tank commander. He served in the European Theater in Belgium and surrounding areas. He was the past owner of the Nutty Nut Shop. He retired and volunteered for several years at Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System. He was a member of Lincoln Methodist Church, Elk's Club and American Legion Post 210. He enjoyed playing golf. She met her husband in England during World War II while she was serving in the British military as a driver. Her husband was stationed at a nearby American naval base where he was a Seabee. She married her husband March 17, 1946, in England, and she later relocated with him to the United States. She lived in Woodridge for 18 years before becoming ill. She is best remembered as a lover of music and animals, particularly horses and poodles. She is survived by her sister, Anne Batting; and her nephews, Tom and Malcom Batting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her parents; and her brother, John Hall. The visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral Friday, Jan. 22, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. | 4771 | Melvin Keith, one of the old settlers of central Iowa, died at his home in Madrid on Wednesday morning at 8:20 o'clock. The deceased was about seventy years of age and a native of Tennessee. He was one of the oldest settlers coming to Dallas County in the early fifties. During the war he served as a private in Co. H. Forty fourth Iowa Infantry under Col Henderson, the present speaker. A wife, one son and two daughters survive. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M.E. Church Rev. Stratton officiating, and the remains laid to rest in the Madrid cemetery. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Nancy Ann; two infant grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Dengler. She had been a switchboard operator for General Telephone in Lincoln before moving to Jacksonville in 1962. She worked at Hertzberg-New Method Book Bindery from 1975 until her retirement. | 4796 | Milton Lee was the son of Squire Edward Lee and Fannie Sowders. Squire and Fannie were prosperous early settlers, farmers and landowners in Blount Township, Vermilion County, IL Milton married first Sarah A. Gritton on 31 December 1868. Between 1869 and 1880, they had as many as seven children later given to adoption. Per the 1880 census, six of those children were: Luna Belle; Mary F; Joseph M; John Wesley Lee; Tonie S; and Milton. Charles Lee Mobaker was Milton and Sarah's youngest child. Milton and Sarah divorced in 1883. Milton married second Margaret Rebecca Randall Jones on 6 November 1884. Milton and Margaret had four children together. Milton was a troubled man. He was afflicted with mental illness that may have been bi-polar disorder. Milton was absent from his family for long periods of time. When he did come home, he would have fits of rage that terrorized his children. Milton was admitted to the State Hospital in Kankakee where he is a resident in the 1900 Census. The 1920 Census shows Milton as a resident of Blount Township, Vermilion County, IL. However, Milton passed at the State Hospital on 3 August 1925. He was buried in the State Hospital Cemetery 7 August 1925. Milton used and went by his middle name, "Milton." His Lee family descendants distinctly remember him as Peter Milton Lee. His step-descendants choose to remember him as Milton E. Lee. Both offer legitimate arguments, but his full name, like the man, remains an enigma. There is complete agreement that he was known as Milton Lee. | Lee, Peter Milton (I505)

| 4798 | Miss Monie Cluster Dies of Typhoid Danville Commercial News Monday, October 1, 1923, page 9 Homer, Ill., Sept. 29.—The burial of Miss Monie Cluster was at the G. A. R. cemetery, Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The funeral party arrived from Catlin. Monie Cluster passed away Thursday morning at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Cluster, near Catlin, after a seven days illness of typhoid fever. Miss Cluster was 24 years old.
