    Mrs. P.T. Hedges Is Called By Death At Natchitoches Home
    Natchitoches, La., Mary 31. – Mrs. P.T. Hedges, wife of a well known Natchitoches business man, died at 2:30 o’clock this morning, following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock this afternoon, with Rev. B.C. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating.
    Deceased is survived by one son, Forest Hedges.
    Mrs. Hedges, formerly resided in Shreveport, where her husband, Professor Hedges, was principal of the high school. They moved to Natchitoches, where Mr. Hedges was for several years a member of the faculty of State Normal college.
    Among those present from Shreveport for the funeral services this afternoon were Dr. and Mrs. G.H. Cassity, relatives of the deceased, and Rev. Claude L. Jones, pastor of Central Christian church.

    James Noah Shouptaugh was born in Rockport, Indiana, November 12, 1836. He came to Missouri on horseback in 1855, at the age of 19 years; stayed out here only a few months and returned to Indiana and came the second time by boat in 1857, locating at Williamstown. November 12, 1861, he was married to Sarah Daugherty in Canton, Missouri, by Rev. W.B. Moody.
    To this union were born eleven children, one son and ten daughters. He united with the M.E. church in 1865, under the ministry of Rev. Gardner. His father was one of the pioneers in the organization and building of the M.E. church at Williamstown, at which place the funeral services were held, conducted by his pastor, F.J. Young of La Belle.
    In 1866 he moved to the farm, one and a half miles north of Williamstown, where he spent the remainder of his life. He departed this life October 13, 1915.
    There is left to mourn his loss a wife, one son and seven daughters. John of Williamstown; Mrs. May Buckley, of Warm Springs, Montana; Mrs. Isa Stanford, of Polson, Montana; Mrs. Lola Nichols, of Willington, Kansas; Mrs. Musa Hawkins, of Clear Water, Idaho; Mrs. Catherine Baynard, of El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Ina Hedges, of Natchetoches, Louisiana, and Mrs. Grace Ross, of Missoula, Montana. Three children, Mrs. Mathursa Chappell, Mrs. Stella Nichols and Lina, having preceded him to the great beyond.
    Interment was in Williamstown cemetery.

    LKH note: the author of the news article is his pastor. The article spells his surname with the extra "u" making it Shouptaugh rather that the usual spelling in other records as Shoptaugh.

    Williamstown, Mo., Nov.29. – The body of Mrs. Noel Shoptaugh formerly of Williamstown, who died last Sunday at the home of her daughter in the State of Louisiana was brought back to Williamstown Tuesday for burial. Mrs. Shoptaugh was about eight years of age and is survived by nine daughters and one son.
