Champaign, Ill., December 20. – John R. Alsip, an old and respected farmer, met with a sad death Saturday evening. He returned from selling his grain to a dealer in this city, and walked with three neighbors from the depot home. He left them at his gate, handed some packages to his wife, pumped a pail of water for his horses, and started from the platform with it, slipped on the icy ground and fell, breaking his neck. His wife’s screams called the neighbors back, but he died as they carried him into the house. He leaves a grown-up family.
