Albert L. Tebelman had to learn responsibility at a young age.

His mother died when he was 11, leaving only his older brother and father on their family farm in Williamstown.

His father was sick, so it was up to Albert and his brother to keep the farm going. He took up the challenge and carried on the tradition the rest of his life, never moving off the farm. Mr. Tebelman, 84, died Thursday at his home.

He was a member of Roanoke Christian Church in Pendleton County, Ky.

"He's done a lot of hard work in his life," said Mr. Tebelman's son, Charles Tebelman. "As far as farming, there isn't much of it he hasn't done at one time or another."

Mr. Tebelman spent much of the time on the farm raising sheep and cattle, but also ran a small sawmill.

About 10 years ago, it became harder for Mr. Tebelman to keep up his work on the farm, so he took some time off and began traveling with his wife, Goldie McClanahan Tebelman. They had been married for 60 years.

"We'd been to about every state," she said.

Besides his wife and son, survivors include daughters, Sandra Lillard of Florence,Ky., Linda Brown and Janet Evans, both of Williamstown, Ky.; two grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, one great-granddaughter and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Elizabeth Home Health/Hospice.
