Augusta, Kan. — Jeffery C. Mattix, 68, of Augusta, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and service 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, all at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
Jeff was born in Wichita, on Sept. 29, 1943, to Wanda Lee (Stearman) Stephens and the late Clinton Ray Mattix. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal. Jeff retired as a ramp service employee at TWA for 35 years. On Jan. 10, 1966, at Miami, OK, he married Anita Ruth (Schick) Mattix, who survives him.
He is also survived by: daughter, Shannon and husband Kirk of Wichita; son, Aaron of Wichita; mother Wanda Stephens of Augusta; brother, Jon and wife Barbara of Garfield, Ark.; grandchildren, Levi and Kyle and Madeline; aunt, Doris Stearman; Odie the farm dog; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Clinton Ray Mattix; stepfathers, Robert Dean Dennett and Robert Stephens; grandparents, Guy and Maxie (Sly) Stearman, Simon Cyrilis and Effie Mattix.

Wanda Lee (Stearman) Mattix Dennett Stephens, 90, of Augusta, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 in Augusta. Visitation 1 pm to 3 pm Sunday and service 1 pm Monday, November 25, 2013, all at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will follow at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard. Wanda was born in Wichita, Kansas on August 29, 1923, to the late Maxie Slyh (Richards) and Henry Guy Stearman. She was a homemaker and worked as a cashier for a clothing store and grocery store. Wanda had been a long time member of Eastern Star in Howard and Clearwater. She is survived by: son, Jon Mattix and wife Barbara; daughter-in-law Anita Mattix; step sons, Donald, Harold, Gary and Ronald Stephens; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clinton Mattix, Robert Dennett and Robert Stephens; son, Jeffery Mattix; brothers, Glenn, Gail, Melford and Guy Stearman Jr.; sisters, Mable Dadisman, Ila Lafern Stearman and Maurice Gwendola Peterson; and a great granddaughter, Dannielle Mattix. Memorial donations to Order of Eastern Star in Howard and Clearwater.

Sarah Catherine Dickey, daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Dickey, was born June 30, 1849, in Macon county, Illinois, and departed this life on July 4, 1928 at her home in Benedict, Kans., aged 79 years and 4 days.
"She was united in marriage to Simon Sirilous Mattix, a Union soldier on January 7, 1868. Seven children were born to this union; one Elida Ann, dying in infancy. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Mattix went to Polk county, Missouri, where they lived a few year; then moved to Kansas in December, 1870. Braving the hardships of the early pioneer life they settled on a farm that is now east of Benedict, where they lived until the husband's death, January 4, 1884.
Mrs. Mattix remained a widow, rearing her small children to manhood and womanhood on the farm. After her children were all married she moved to Benedict where she lived until her death, which occurred after a long period of patient suffering. All her children were at her bedside except one, who lives in El Dorado.
She was a loving mother and was always ready to assist her children in any way possible for her to do. She was very thoughtful of her neighbors and friends, giving a hand of assistance where needed.
She surrendered her life to Jesus when a girl and remained a devoted Christian through her life.
She leaves to mourn her departure six children: Naomi Polson, Andrew Mattix, Eva Fahey and Amazette Polson of Benedict; Edgar Mattix of Buffalo and Simon Mattix of El Dorado; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Evans and Mrs. Nancy Isenburg of Benedict and Mrs. Rebecca Capps of Shelbina, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.
