C.W. “Bill” Buckman, 61, of 1100 Carol Drive, died Thursday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born at Linneus, Mo., he had resided in the Brookfield, Mo., area before moving to St. Joseph 30 years ago. He was the son of the late Manley and Opal Bagley Buckman.
He had retired six years ago as secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local No.460 after 18 years of service.
A member of the East Hills Church of Christ and King Hill Lodge No.276, A.F.&A.M., he was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Marge Buckman, of the home, a daughter, Cheryl Ann George, St. Joseph; a brother, Donald M. Buckman, Denver, Colo.; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
The body is at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman funeral home where service arrangements are pending.

Manley C. Buckman of Meadville died Friday at Pershing Memorial hospital. He was 75. He was born Jan. 9, 1901, near Linneus, the son of William and Mary Ellen Sallee Buckman. He married Opal Bagley Dec 24, 1921, and spent most of his life farming in Linn County. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Opal, of the home; a daughter Mrs. Dale Wood, Linneus; two sons, Bill Buckman, St. Joseph; Donald Buckman, Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren six greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Miss Kate Buckman, Chillicothe and Mrs. Blanche Goldsmith, Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers Glenn Buckman, Lumens; Brooks Buckman, Meadville and a twin brother, Morgan Buckman, Marceline.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leslie and Willis Buckman.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Meadville Church of Christ with Brother William Hensley officiating.
There was singing from the congregation.
Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Linneus, under direction of the Wright Funeral Home in Meadville.
Pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Buckman, Leland Buckman, Orville Buckman, Robert Buckman, Glenn Buckman, Ivan Buckman and Jesse Buckman.

Mrs. Opal Laverne Buckman died at her home in Linneus Sunday. She was 73.
Mrs. Buckman was born Jan. 28, 1904, at Purdin, daughter of Charles Bagley and Anna Hedges Bagley. On Dec. 24, 1921 she was married to Manley Buckman. He died Dec. 31, 1976. The couple farmed in the Linneus area, and after retirement moved to Meadville. After Mr. Buckman’s death, Mrs. Buckman returned to Linneus. She was a member of the Meadville Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty Wood, Linneus; two sons, Bill Buckman, St. Joseph and Donald Buckman, Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and four brothers, Raymond Bagley, Purdin; Alva Bagley, Shelbina; Chester and Leslie Bagley, both of Kirksville.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kirt, Rollie and Wayne.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Meadville Church of Christ with Brother William Hensley officiating.
Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery at Linneus.
The family will receive friends at the Wright Funeral Home in Linneus after 7 o’clock this evening.

Funeral Services Held For Charles S. Bagley
Funeral services for Charles S. Bagley, 83, who died Wednesday at his home northeast of Purdin were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Purdin, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Ydaon, of Blocton, Ia. Burial was in the Purdin Cemetery.
Charles Stewart Bagley, son of George and Elizabeth Bagley, was born March 21, 1872, at Eversonville. On Oct. 17, 1894, he was married to Anna Hedges, who survives. One son, Rollie preceded his father in death.
Surviving besides the wife, Mrs. Anna Bagley, are seven children, Curtis, Purdin; Raymond, Browning, Chester, Kirksville; Mrs. Opal Buckman, Linneus; Alva, Shelbina; Leslie, Edina; and Wayne, Nokomis, Ill.; two brothers, George Bagley, Purdin, and Frank Bagley, Brookfield, 18 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. May Moren, and four half-sisters, Mrs. Martha Powell, Mrs. Kathryn Chapman, Mrs. Eva Dewey and Mrs. Ella Cramer.
Mr. Bagley had served as an elder of the Church of Christ for 40 years. With the exception of six years when they moved to Purdin, the Bagleys had spent their entire married life on the same farm where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October, 1954.
Acting as pallbearers were six grandsons, Bernard Bagley, Billy Buckman, Ronald Bagley, Donald Buckman, Johnny Bagley, Dale Bagley, Larry Bagley and Roger Bagley.
Flower bearers were granddaughters, Mrs. Clarence Rupert, Mrs. Nellie Harris, Mrs. Wilma Helms, Mrs. Betty Woods, Mrs. Bertie Schweizer, Carolyn Bagley, Susan Bagley, Sharon Bagley, Janet Bagley, Kathryn Bagley, and Mrs. Marjorie Buckman.

Angeline Howell was born December 11, 1837 in Linn county, Missouri, and departed this life November 5, 1926, aged 88 years, 10 months and 25 days. She was the daughter of William and Frances Howell, one of the pioneer families of Linn county, who came from Kentucky about 1834. Mr. Howell was Linn county’s first assessor.
Angeline Howell was united in marriage to Willis Sallee December 13, 1854. He passed away January 11, 1911. To this union were born 11 children, 8 boys and 3 girls. The youngest daughter, Mrs. Lillie Jessee, died at the age of 24.
Mrs. Sallee obeyed the gospel at about the age of 50 and identified herself with the church of Christ of which she was a faithful member until her death, being in His service 48 years. She had read her Bible through many times and was a regular attendant at church until the last years.
The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon, November 7, 1926, at the Parson Creek church, and the services were conducted by Elder W. E. Ballenger, of Kansas City. Burial was under the direction of Smiley Brothers, of Wheeling, in the presence of many friends and relatives.
The grandsons acted as pallbearers.
She is survived by ten children, namely: Mrs. Catherine Sharp, Kansas City, Missouri; Edward Sallee, Raymond, Kansas; John Sallee, of Sweeny, Texas; Luther and Ben, of Meadville, Missouri; Sanford Sallee, of Tonganoxie, Kansas; Ellen Buckman, of Linneus, Missouri; Charley Sallee, of Mutual, Kansa; W.R. Sallee, of Wheeling, Missouri, and Evan Sallee, of Greenwood, Missouri; she also leaves one sister, Mrs. Wesley Neal, of Melvern, Kansas.
Weep not that her toils are over,

When our work, like hers, is don.
Till then we yield, with gladness,
Our mother to Him, to keep;

Obituary
William R. Hedges was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, March 10th, 1841, died October 25, 1925, age 84 years, 7 months and 15 days. At the age of 16 he obeyed the gospel and became Elder in the Church of Christ and remained faithful to the end of his life.
He enlisted in the Civil War while a young man and served 2 1/2 years.
He was married to Sarah Lavina Allen Nov. 28th, 1863. To this union were born 9 children all of whom are living, 5 boys and 4 girls. The funeral services were conducted by Elder Potter at the Church of Christ on Monday where a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathered to pay him a last farewell, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Purdin cemetery by the side of his companion, who crossed over some years ago.
William R. Hedges was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, March 10th, 1841, died October 25, 1925, age 84 years, 7 months and 15 days. At the age of 16 he obeyed the gospel and became Elder in the Church of Christ and remained faithful to the end of his life. He enlisted in the Civil War while a young man and served 2 1/2 years.
Was married to Sarah Lavina Allen Nov. 28th, 1863. To this union were born 9 children all of whom are living, 5 boys and 4 girls. We have a copy of William R. Hedges Soldier's Certificate No.690641 file. In his general affidavit, he writes that in Dec 1861 I received an injury to my left side by being kicked by a mule, while helping to break mules at Crab Orchard Ky the mules back joint struck me three or four times on the lower ribs of the left side causing a rupture of the left kidney so that I urinated blood for six weeks and about the 10th of April 1862 while still suffering from the effects of said injury I was poisoned by eating cheese purchased from the suttler of the region and my whole left side seemed to be affected by said poison and my belief is that my left side being was when I was poisoned the effects of the poison naturally settled in that side and the poison aggravated the results from the injury. An any rate I have continued to suffer from that time to the present with pain in the left side of my head and face like neuralgia and with pain in my left side and hip and spine like rheumatism.

"This regiment was one of the three which President Lincoln authorized Lieut. William Nelson of the navy, a native of Mason county, Ky., to raise in Kentucky in the early summer of 1861. The day after the August election, Col. Fry with a detachment from Danville, the nucleus of what became Co. A, opened Camp Dick Robinson and three other regiments began to pour in and with a few weeks enough men to fill the four regiments had assembled. The first active service performed by any portion of the regiment was when a detachment of several companies, with a similar detachment from the 3d, was sent to Nicholasville to escort a wagon train loaded with muskets and ammunition from Nicholasville to the camp. In the latter part of October the regiment moved to Crab Orchard and became a part of the 2nd brigade, 1st division, Army of the Ohio. Its first participation in actual hostilities was at the battle of Mill Springs, Ky., in which action the regiment lost 1 officer (Lieut. J. M. Hall, Co.B) and 8 men killed and 52 wounded, which was a pretty heavy percentage in a regiment depleted by sickness and detachments to less than 400 for duty. From Mill Springs the regiment marched by Coffey's mill, Danville, Lebanon, and Bardstown to Louisville and there embarked on boats for Nashville, where it arrived March 4, 1862. It took part in the advance on Corinth, frequently skirmishing and sometimes sustaining loss. After the evacuation of Corinth it pursued the enemy as far as Booneville, Miss. and then returned to Corinth marched via Iuka to Tuscumbia. After a stay of some weeks at the latter place, it moved with the command on July 24, via Florence, Lawrenceburg, Pulaski, Fayetteville, Lynchburg and Winchester to Decherd. Leaving the latter place for Nashville, it marched from there with Buell's army to Louisville. After the battle of Perryville, where the regiment was present though not engaged, it moved with the command via Danville to Crab Orchard, whence via Greensburg and Glasgow to Gallatin, Tenn., Then to Casalian Springs, half way between Gallatin and Hartsville, and there to Elizabethtown. It was joined at Munfordville by the 12th Ky. Cavalry and 13th Ky. Infantry and had a fight with Morgan's rear at Rolling fork; moved thence to Lebanon Junction and thence to Nashville. The Regiment took part in the Tullahoma campaign and was in action at Hoover's gap, Concord church and near Tullahoma, but with slight loss. It went into action at the battle of Chichamauga with 19 officers and 360 men and lost 13 officers wounded, and 160 enlisted men killed and wounded."

Note: His death certificate states he was born in Rowan County, Kentucky (information provided by his brother J. A. Hedges). His obituary states he was born in Fleming County, Kentucky.
