8952 | Morris H. "Bud" Hunt, 93, of South Shore, died January 19, 2011, in South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 16, 1917, in Greenup County, a son of the late Harry Hunt and Nellie Harr Hunt. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad in Portsmouth, Ohio, was a 52-year member of Harrison-Fullerton Masonic Lodge of South Shore and served as an Army medic during World War II while stationed in England. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Webb Hunt, two sisters, Mable Bosley and Lucille Miller, four brothers, Richard, Clarence, Raymond and Carl Hunt. He is survived by two daughters, Francie (Bob) Meenach of Russell, and Janie (David) Budig of South Shore, two grandchildren, J.T. (Renee) White, and Matthew Meenach, two great-grandchildren, Jonah Clay and Lilah Renee White, and a sister-in-law, Ota Hunt of South Shore. Morris was born February 23, 1934 near Linneus, MO to John Vane and Mary Aileen (Crookshanks) Kingsolver. He married Shirley Jenkins on January 25, 1955 in Brookfield, MO. Born to this union were three children, Diana, Delora and Dennis. Services will be Saturday March 29, 2014 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City at 10:00 AM. Visitation will take place at the same location on Friday March 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, 20263 Highway 5, Linneus, MO on Saturday March 29 at 2:00 PM. After graduating from Linneus High School in 1952, Morris worked on the family farm, then served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, stationed in France. Upon his return, he was employed by the Linn County Abstract Company. In 1961, the family moved to Kansas City where he worked for Kansas City Title and Chicago Title Insurance Company for 35 years. Morris was preceded in death by his son, Dennis. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home, daughters Diana (Danny) Leahy and Delora Kingsolver, daughter-in-law Amy Kingsolver, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Carolyn McIntyre and brother James (Sandra) Kingsolver, Connie Garone, who was considered an adopted daughter and close family friend, and many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. In 1945 she married Delbert Brooks. The couple lived in Lennox and Sioux Falls. She had worked at the Sunshine Hatchery, as a clerk in Lennox, Worthing and Canton and for the Argus Leader mailing room for 11 years, retiring in 1981. Delbert died in 2002. Mrs. Helms was the daughter of James S. and Sarah Ann (Bundies) King, and was born Oct. 20, 1886, near Browning. She was married to Charles Helms, who died April 20, 1940. 8962 | Mother of Murdered Deputy Sheriff Dies Mrs. Mary Hart Passes to Rest At Her Home In Clark County Funeral Held Today Elder J.W. Hardin and the Rev. J.H. MacNeill to Conduct Services (Special to The Herald) Winchester, Ky., Jan. 11 - Mrs. Mary Hart, widow of Josiah Hart, and mother of the late Deputy Sheriff George M. Hart, who was murdered on the streets of Winchester, died at her home on the Eaton pike last night at about 10:30 o'clock, after an illness of about two weeks of pneumonia. She was about 78 years of age. Mrs. Hart, since the death of her husband last August and the tragic murder of her son in November, had been anxiously awaiting the summons, and was ready and willing to answer the call of death. Mrs. Hart was formerly Miss Mary Moore, a daughter of William Moore, and was born in Bath County. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. J.D. Hanna, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Taylor Fryer, of Louisiana, Mo.; Mrs. Matt Chinn, of Biloxi, Miss.; Mrs. Henry Ramsey, of Lexington; Mrs. Kirby Wills and Miss Ida Hart, of this city; and Mr. William Hart, of Clark County, all of whom were at her bedside when the end came. Two sisters, Mrs. Martha Kennedy and Mrs. Lewis, and a brother, William Moore, all of Bath County, also are living. The funeral will be held at the residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Elder J.W. Harding and Rev. J.H. MacNeill. The pallbearers will be Levi Goff, James S. Wade, Reuben Franklin, T.C. Lyon, W.P. Winn and T.R. McDonald. The body will be laid to rest in the Winchester cemetery. 8964 | Mother of Wichitan dies in South Haven. Mrs. T. A. Hedges aged 86 of South Haven, Kan., the mother of Bert A. Hedges and Arthur A. Hedges of Wichita, died Sunday. She had been a resident of Kansas for more than 25 years. Born Nov. 29, 1862, in Parkersburg, W. Va., she was the wife of Rev. T. A. Hedges of South Haven, an evangelist of the Christian church, and had lived in several midwestern states, with one son born in Ohio, one in Nebraska, a son and daughter born in Indiana, a son and daughter in Illinois and two daughters in Missouri. Two daughters preceded her in death. Rev. and Mrs. Hedges celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on February 19. Other survivors include: two sons, Herbert A. Hedges of Kansas City, and Fred A. Hedges of Moberly, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Neil Henney of South Haven nd Mrs. Lem Tallman of Canton, Mo.; 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. The four women were returning to their homes from a California vacation trip when the car driven by Mrs. Nell Gillam collided with another car. D.M. Teacher Mrs. Nell Gillam, a teacher at Dunlap School here, was born at Armour, S.D. She came to Des Moines from Tipton 27 years ago, and was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church and South Gate Order of Eastern Star, and was past president of Park Avenue School Parent-Teacher Association and of the American Legion Auxiliary at Tipton. She is survived by a son, 2nd Lt. Lynn Gillam of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; two brothers, Charles P. Denger of Des Moines and Edward T. Denger of Ojai, Cal., a stepson, Robert E. Gillam, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Eloise Griffin, both of Des Moines, and four grandchildren. Lived at Dows Mrs. Denger, born in Illinois, lived in Dows before moving here six years ago. She was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church and was past worthy matron of the Eastern Star at Dows and past president at Dows of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the Missionary Society. 8968 | Mr. Aldendifer died Nov. 8, 2002, in Rancho Mirage, Calif. He had been a military and commercial pilot and president of the Mount Pulaski Telephone and Electric Company. He was born May 17, 1916, to Joseph R. and Marguerite C. Aldendifer. He attended Central School in Lincoln; St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis.; and Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was in the class of 1939. In 1940 he applied for flight training with the U.S. Army Air Corps and began his training at Lindbergh Field, San Diego, Calif., with the Ryan School of Aeronautics. He completed flight training at Kelley Field, Texas, with the class of 1941. He was assigned to the 95th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force at Harham, Suffolk, England. He served as command pilot of a B-17 squadron and in that capacity was award the Distinguished Flying Cross in June 1945. Later in 1945, following his discharge, he began his commercial flying career with Continental Airlines. He retired from the airline in 1976. Soon thereafter he returned to Lincoln and assumed the role of president of the Mount Pulaski Telephone and Electric Company. Beckham was united in marriage to Norlene Plank Esham on March 24,1958. He loved his wife and family dearly. Mr. Esham worked at Ray L. White and Sons Lumber Company. He was also a mechanic on weekends and drilled water wells for eleven years. He enjoyed farming, fishing, current events in the world, state, and local, was a avid John Wayne fan, and agriculture was his passion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eloise Dummitt, and one brother Larry Esham. Survivors include his wife, Norlene Plank Esham, one son Mark Allen Esham, one daughter Peggy Esham Taylor and husband Willis, a sister Mildred Evans and husband Lester, a niece Connie Evans Proudfoot and husband Richard, three grandchildren, Stephany Stone (Dale), Amber Justice (John), and Cody Esham, also eight great-grandchildren, Gracie, Waylon, Levi, Caeyden, Paxton, Kash, Bella Rose, and Jace whom he loved dearly. 8984 | Mr. Charles David Hoke, 87, of Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, formerly of Walkersville, died Sunday, April 6, at his home. He was the husband of Teresa Jamison Hoke. Born Jan. 23, 1916, in Walkersville, he was the son of the late David Ira and Eva Catherine Hedges Hoke. Mr. Hoke was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Early in his life, he farmed in the Walkersville area with his father. He was a member of Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville, and a charter member of Glade Valley Grange. He was a member of Walkersville Volunteer Fire Co., serving as its treasurer for 45 years before retiring in 2000. Mr. Hoke was active in the Glade Valley Food Bank, a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, and more recently enjoyed volunteering his services at Homewood at Crumland Farms. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Emily Roberts of Frederick, and Margaret Krow and husband James of Walkersville and Jensen Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Sarah Krow of Arlington, Va., Ann Roberts of New York, and Mary Montgomery and husband Kurt of Torrence, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Graham Montgomery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville. 8986 | Mr. Donald L. "Whitey" Hedges, 75, Lebanon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Parkwood Health Care Center in Lebanon. Mr. Hedges was born June 20, 1935, in Gadsden, son of the now deceased Francis Cleveland and Edna Pearl (Cochran) Hedges. He married Patty Joan Hoffman on June 3, 1955, in Lebanon. Mrs. Hedges survives. He was reared and educated in Whitestown, where he was a member of the 1953 Whitestown High School graduating class. In 1955 he moved to Lebanon. For several years, Mr. Hedges was a typesetter for The Lebanon Reporter and later for The Indianapolis Star. He retired in 1982. After his retirement, he owned and operated Hedges Cleaning & Floor Service until 1997. He also worked for Indianapolis Car Exchange for about five years. Whitey never met a stranger. He enjoyed his friends, family and taking day trips with his wife. An avid sports fan, he followed the Chicago Cubs, IU Basketball and NASCAR racing — especially Jeff Gordon. Additional interests included doing crossword puzzles and genealogy. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church, Whitestown; Graphic Communications Workers Local #17, Indianapolis; AFL-CIO; and was a former member of the Indiana National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hedges of Lebanon; four children, Kathy O. Hedges, Karen K. (Mike) Netherton, Gary F. Hedges and Kimberly A. (Rick) Craig, all of Lebanon; nine grandchildren, Samantha L. Hedges of Chicago, Ill., and Chad A. Hedges, Jillian L. Hedges, Erika P. Hedges, Abigail D. Hedges-Netherton, Jessica A. Summers, Scott A. Hulse, Ryon Donald Craig and Nathon L. FIELDS 10 years ago FLEMINGSBURG | Beloved husband, father and grandfather Artis Fields, 77, of Wallingford, went to be with his heavenly father Monday evening, Nov. 4, 2013, at UK medical center. Mr. Fields was born to Fount and Minnie Bloomfield Fields on April 7, 1936, in Lewis County. Artis was a lifelong tobacco farmer and dairyman. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ where he was treasurer for 33 years and also served as deacon. On March 31, 1997, Artis received a wonderful gift from an organ donor giving him a new heart and a second chance for life. Artis took this opportunity to be a walking testament of courage, faith in God and a true love of life for all that met him. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maxine Mineer Fields; son, Brent (Cindy) Fields; daughter, Lisa (Randy) Stamm; and grandchildren, Kelly (David) Rouse, Clay Stamm, Brooke Fields, Madison Fields and Justin Fields. He was the husband of Joyce Gibbons Hahn, whom he married June 20, 1948. Mr. Hahn was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Carroll County, a son of Margaret Hedges Hahn of Frederick and the late Guy David Hahn. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Independent Hose Co., and was an avid bowler. He had been employed at Genstar Stone Products in the credit department for more than 38 years until his retirement in 1986. Since 1986, he had owned and operated Bill's Signs Shop until his retirement due to poor health. Surviving besides his wife and his mother are a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta A. and Grayson H. Mercer Jr. of Frederick; one son, William Edward Hahn of Bellvue, Colo.; one grandson, Grayson William Mercer of Frederick; one brother, Roland H. Hahn of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hahn is at the Frederick Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 1201 N. Hall of the Methodist church of Grenada conducting the services. Mr. Brown was born in Vermilion county, Ill., July 30, 1862. He was married to Miss Blanche Hedges Dec. 24, 1891 and to this union three children were born. He was a charter member of the Church of Christ at Georgetown, Ill. 8995 | Mr. John Hayes, was born in the state of Indiana, August 15, 1835. When about five years of age, with her parents, he emigrated westward, settling in Iowa, where they remained until 1857, when the family came to Missouri, settling upon the farm on which his death occurred Saturday, May 31. In 1859 Mr. Hayes was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Casida and to this union were born five children, Jim, Tom, George, Mrs. J.W. Sallee and Mrs. J.D. Molloy, who with their mother survive. When the days of the rebellion came on he became a soldier and served under the stars and stripes for three years, being honorably discharged at the end of the war. In the passing of Mr. Hayes this community has lost one of its very earliest settlers – one who has witnessed this wild timber and prairie country blossom under the cultivation of the emigrant. Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Olive, Sunday afternoon by Rev. J.W. Drinkard. Members of the Antioch Christian church of which deceased had been a member for many years, assisted with the music and the body was interred in the Mt. Olive cemetery.
