Photos Hedges Reunion 1946
The Seventeenth Annual Hedges Reunion was held Sunday, August 18, 1946 at Lincoln Park, Danville, Illinois with 99 relatives and friends present. A basket dinner was served at the noon hour. George F. Hedges presided at the business meeting in the afternoon. Talks were given from those from distances and was enjoyed by all. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year. President J. W. Hedges, Vice President P. T. Hedges, Secretary Treasurer Anna Bagley. The next meeting will be held the 3rd Sunday in August 1947 in Missouri. Gifts were presented to the oldest man present, George F. Hedges, 79. Oldest woman was Mrs. Cora Hedges, 76 years old. The youngest was Robert Alan Yeazel, 3 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yeazel. Newlyweds were Mr. and Mrs. John Hanks. The one coming the farthest was Jasper N. Hedges of Dubois, Wyoming, 1650 miles. There were 6 marriages, Betty Buckman and Dale Wood, Geraldine Hedges and Frank Pesorara, Betty Lou Smith and Frank Day, Lois Smith and Max Dodd, Roy Hedges and Inez Cola, Irene Smith and John Hanks. There were 9 births [transcriber has omitted this section to preserve privacy] Two deaths: Ercel Eldon Simpson and James A. Hedges. Greetings were received from those from a distance who could not attend.

Notes - Clifford Hoag died of cancer at age 69. He served as superintendent of Fairmount schools for 26 years, retiring in 1973. He often helped provide transportation for students for extracurricular activities and invited them to his home. His accomplishments at Fairmount Grade School include increase in teaching staff, establishment of a hot lunch program, the addition of vocal and instrumental music studies, expansion of the athletic program to include membership in the Little Vermilion and County conferences and membership in the elementary film library. He had been a Fairmount resident since 1947. He and wife Lucille had three children: Clint (Sharon) Hoag, Terry (Norma) Hoag and Pamela (Tim) Tighe. Both Terry and Sharon are deceased. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmount and the Fairmount Lions club.

Fairmount, Ill. - Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Fairmount for Clifford C. Hoag Sr., former superintendent of Fairmount Community Consolidated School District 150.
Hoag died at 10 a.m. Friday (Sept. 7, 1979) at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was 69.
The Rev. Richard Uhrich will officiate, with burial in Greenview Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Carrington Funeral Home in Fairmount.
The family ahs requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Hoag lived at 205 W. South in Fairmount. He retired as superintendent of schools in 1973 after 26 years of service.
Described as one whose first interest was the welfare of children and young people, he often helped provide students with transportation to and from extracurricular activities and invited them to his home.
His accomplishments at Fairmount Grade School included an increase in the teaching staff, the establishment of a hot lunch program, the addition of vocal and instrumental music studies, the expansion of the athletic program to include membership in the Little Vermilion Conference and the County Conference, and membership in the elementary film library.
He began his career as a high school English and social studies teacher in Bellflower, Mo., and was then superintendent of schools in Purdin, Glenwood, Madison and Milan, Mo., before coming to Fairmount in August 1947.
A graduate of Kirksville High School, he received his bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo. He also received a master's degree in school administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Hoag was a member and past president of the Vermilion County Elementary Principals Association. He also was a member of the Illinois Education Association; National Education Association; Retired Teachers Association; Phi Delta Kappa, National Honorary Professional Fraternity; Kappa Delta Pi, National Scholastic Fraternity; Blue Key; and Sigma Tau Gamma social fraternity.
In addition, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmount, Fairmount Lions Club, Catlin Masonic Lodge and Danville Moose Lodge.
Born May 28, 1910, in Kirksville, he was a son of Samuel A. and Zella E. Mendenhall Hoag. He married Lucille Smith on July 6, 1937, at Milan, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Clint of Fairmount and Terry of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Pamela Kay) Tighe of Homer; a sister, Mrs. Frances Fickle of Kirksville; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
