      Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Mission Chapel of Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home for Edwin Ernest Reed, 80, 1626 E. 23rd St., who died Thursday in a local hospital.
      Military honors will be provided by Castle Air Force Base during burial in Evergreen Memorial Park.
      Born Dec. 3, 1893 in Haddam, Kan., Mr. Reed grew up in Oklahoma and married the former Rosa Cassity there in 1921. They moved to San Jose in 1924 and came to Merced in 1928.
      He was a retired Merced County employe and a charter member of the Bear Creek Grange, the World War I Veterans and was a Navy Veteran of World War I.
      In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Edwina hill of Bakersfield, Mrs. Dolores Frank of Scotts Valley, Mrs. Doris Hamill of Merced, Mrs. Betty Casaday of La Mesa and Mrs. Flora Cromwell of Merced; a son, Bruce Reed of Watsonville; a sister Mrs. Cora West of Los Molinos; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastside Church of Christ in memory of Mr. Reed.
