    • Mrs. Florence Pittman Passes Away
On Monday, June 11, 1956, Florence May Pittman passed away at her home in Durango, Colo., at the age of 82 years, 6 months ad 16 days.
Florence was the only child of Martha and Lev T. "Squire" Brown of Louisburg, Kans. She was born Nov. 26, 1873, in Louisburg, where she spent her childhood and early married life.
On Feb. 6, 1895, she was united in marriage to Ward Pittman of this community, and to this union five children were born. Two boys passed away in infancy, leaving Whitney of Los Angeles, Calif., and Melba and Merle of Durango, Colo., two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other relatives to mourn her death.
She united with the Louisburg Methodist Church in early life and gave freely of her time and talents, being a soprano of great ability she spent much time, both working with and in the choir and special groups of the church and community. While their children were still in grade school, the moved to Las Animas, Colo., then to Colorado Springs, and in 1915 moved to her present home in Durango.
Mrs. Pittman was a cheerful, contented and devoted wife and mother while bearing her cross of physical handicap, being a victim of crippling arthritis for many years and in a wheel chair since a fall at the age of 70.
Mrs. Melba Smith, her daughter, accompanied her remains to Louisburg, where funeral services were held at the Runyan chapel Friday, June 15, at 2 p.m., with burial in the family lot at the Louisburg cemetery. Rev. C.L. Coldsmith was in charge of the services. Mrs. Charles Kelly and Miss Julia Ann Lowlor, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Cotton, sang "In the Garden" and "Sometime We'll Understand."
