- Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Sunset Chapel of Taft Funeral Home for Robert S. Jaggers, 71. The pastor of the Taft Heights Assembly of God Church will officiate in the services.
He was born May 21, 1909 in Los Angeles to Gurney and Pearley Jaggers, and died Wednesday, December 19, 1980, in a Bakersfield hospital.
Wilmington was his home until 1928 when he moved to Taft. He and the former Ethel Decker were married here Oct. 29, 1928.
He had served in the Sheriff's Department for two years before going to work for Safe Oil Co. in 1938. In 1940 he returned to law enforcement, serving as night sergeant for the Taft Police Dept. He left the department in 1956 to start his own Merchants Police and Protective Patrol, two years later in 1958 adding Jagger's Burglar Alarms to his business. He retired and sold his merchants Patrol in 1972, however remained active as manager in the Jagger's Burglar Alarm Co., which is currently owned by his son.
In addition to his wife Ethel, he is survived by a son, two sisters, five grandchildren and one great great grandson, and many other relatives in the Los Angeles area.
Serving as casket bearers will be fellow officers of the Taft Police and Sheriffs Departments. Interment will follow the services in the West Side Cemetery.
Friends who wish to pay their respects may call this evening and prior to services at the Taft Funeral Home.
