- Catherine B. Jimison
Mon, you left us today,
You had to go.
You left us with this loneliness,
We all loved you so.
God in His garden
Need a very special rose,
You were the very best,
And the best is what he chose.
Catherine Bernice Jimison of Russellville, Ohio, was born September 8, 1912, to Rosie (Moody) and Sanford Harris. She passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the Ohio Valley manor.
Bernice began to demonstrate her life-long commitment to others as she cared for her eight brothers and sisters while her mother worked as a mail carrier. She married William Herman Jimison on July 4, 1928. This union was blessed with the birth of 15 children. The family continued to grow steadily over the years with the addition of spouses and over eighty grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died on October 8, 1981, after 53 years of marriage. Bernice was also preceded in death by sons David, Edward, and Dean Jimison; daughter Anna Jo Puckett; and son-in-law Ray Porter. Surviving children and their spouse include: Aileen and Burton Wamsley, Kenneth and Wilma Jimison, Geraldine and Merville Wright, Arnold and Vickie Jimison, Jane and Junior Shreffler, Oleta Porter, Larry and Ronnie Jimison, Danny and Becky Jimison, Bob and Cindy Jimison, Jeff and Vicki Jimison, Sand and Janet Jimison, Pauline Jimison, and Evelyn Jimison.
Bernice was a very hard-working, loving, and cheerful person who dedicated her life to her family and loved ones. She ran her home as well as any business and made sure no visitor left with an empty stomach. Although she had many hardships to face during her life, Bernice was a source of strength and comfort in times of need. She was always ready to put aside her own pain to ease someone else’s.
