- Million Awarded Honorary Degree
Philippi, W.Va., May 30 (Special) - Elmer Garr Million, a native of Mt. Carmel, Ky., received the honorary doctor of laws degree at Alderson-Broaddus College here Monday at the 89th annual commencement. Dr. Million gave the commencement address to the largest graduating class in the history of this Baptist liberal arts college.
A graduate of Georgetown College, Dr. Million received his master's and doctor's degrees at the University of Chicago. He has been broad professional experience as a teach in speech and biology, a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and editor of college and interdenominational newspapers and magazines.
Since 1957 he has been the director of the department of Schools and Colleges of the American Baptist Convention. In this capacity he has lectured and assisted a group of over 30 Baptist colleges all over the nation, and yet continued his scholarly pursuits through the production of numerous articles, writing a series of filmstrips on the "History of the Christian Church."
