Thomas E. Hedges was a Union Soldier during the Civil War. He enlisted on 2 Aug 1862 as a Private in Company A of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry.

- MHR note: in letter from Ida Cronkhite dated 13 February 1951. William Ribelin Hedges brother, Jesse, married Lucy Ann Hawkins. I don't remember surely of all the children, but Albert, 20 I think, joined the "rebel" army and was killed at the battle of Shiloh. Later his brothers, Marcus and Thomas joined the Union Army.

- Civil War Veteran, 95, Dies at LaBelle
Thomas E. Hedges, 95, died yesterday at his home in Labelle after a short illness. He was born Jan. 22, 1843 in Louis county, Ky. and has lived in LaBelle for the past 27 years. He is a civil war veteran.
Mr. Hedges is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Georgette Truesdell, Springhill, Ky.; three sons, U.G. Hedges, R.V. Hedges, of LaBelle, and E.F. Hedges of Tolesboro, Ky., and a granddaughter, Mrs. Wade Hampton of LaBelle. Funeral arrangements are being made by Spooner and Engelhardt funeral home and services will be held at 3 o’clock this afternoon at the LaBelle Methodist church with Rev. P.T. Tyler and Rev. W.E. Dance officiating. Interment will be in the Ortona cemetery.
