- Mr. S.R. Powell Passed Away Yesterday.
Mr. S.R. Powell, whose illness was mentioned some days ago, died yesterday morning at ten minutes of 3 o'clock, of hemorrhage of the bowels. He had been sick about three weeks with an attack of flux, and had been in a critical condition several days.
Deceased was born in Bath County, was in the seventieth year of his age, and had been a resident of Maysville since 1844. He came to this city from Lewis County. Mr. Powell was a cooper by trade and was one of Maysville's industrious and upright citizens. He was married twice, his wives being sister, daughters of the late John Hunt, who was in the grocery business in this city at one time. His last wife survives him, and he leaves three children, one daughter and two sons. The latter reside in Cincinnati.
Deceased was Commander of Jos. Heiser Post No.14, G.A.R., and was a member of Ringgold Lodge No.27, I.O.O.F. He is the second Commander and third member the Post has lost since last May, the late J.H. Wright having been Commander of the Post at the time of his death.
The funeral arrangements have not been completed.
