Notes - Leota F. Schmidt, 81, passed away Sept. 29, 1999. Survived by her husband of 51 years, John Schmidt, of the family home; brothers, Harold Walters of Bartlesville, Okla., and Kenneth (Evelyn) Walters of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born to Bert and Nettie (nee Cassity) Walters on May 24, 1918, in Wetmore, Kan. Leota earned a dietician degree at Kansas State University. She was a dietician at Mennonite Hospital in La Junta and also worked in the clerical department of the assessors' and Social Security offices. She enjoyed growing flowers. Member of First United Methodist Church and Women's Rebecca Circle at church. She will lie in state at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. today, from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Roselawn Cemetery, with Rev. Gene Hagerman officiating. Those who desire, may make memorials to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
