- George F. Hempleman
George F. Hempleman, son of George Hempleman the Second and Sarah Bilderback Hempleman, was born August 13, 1827, on the old Hempleman homestead west of South Charleston, Ohio, (Clarke County). Being born of that good old German stock, learned to hard work on the farm, and got a training which brought out those manly qualities in after life. He married Margaret Hill, December 19, 1850. She was born September 16, 1829. George Hempleman bought and settled on a part of the old homestead and there lived until he died, June 14, 1902. He was a staunch member of the Presbyterian church and always an active worker. It can be said of George Hempleman that he was one of God’s noble men, loved by every one that knew him, and to know him was to love and respect him, for his just and manly qualities. He was always ready to help a friend, and to lend a helping hand to anyone in distress, being a true and loyal Mason. He was a good and loving husband, a loving father, whose greatest aim was to lead his children aright. He once said to the writer, if he could live to see his children be womanly women, which is the highest type of woman, his greatest work would be done. It can be said, he did.
Margaret Hill Hempleman, his wife, who we are proud to say is yet living in Springfield, Ohio, belonged to the good old family of Hills; and to know the Hills was to know one of the best families of Clarke County, Ohio. She was a grand and patient wife, a kind and loving mother, and to know and meet her was always a pleasure, for she always carried one of those sweet smiles on her face, which seems to enter one’s soul. Kind to every one; though not of the most rugged type, no task ever seemed to be too hard for her, and it is the prayers of those who know her, that she may be spared many years yet with us all, for all love, as we say, Aunt Margaret.
To them were born six children, Robert G., Margaretta, Sarah, Della, Anna and Effie. Robert died as an infant.
