Sarah Jane Courtright was born near Cedar Vale, Cowley County Kansas, January 9 1878, and passed from the family home near Blanchard, Iowa, to her "Eternal Home" September 26 1938, aged 60 years, 8 months and 17 days.
She was a daughter of Richard and Hannah Courtright and moved with them to Payne County, Oklahoma, in 1889.
She was united in marriage with Wm Walkinshaw at Stillwater, Okla, November 21 1894, and eight children were born to this union.
They came to Atchison County Mo, where they resided two years, then two years in Page County Iowa, then to the present home east of Blanchard in Nodaway County, Mo, where she has lived until her death.
The immediate relatives who survive her are her husband, Wm Walkinshaw, and children, Roy and John of Blanchard, Edgar of Kansas City, Mo, Mrs. Hannah Christenson of Rembrandt, Iowa, Mrs. Nettie Harness of Blanchard, Mrs. Pearly Huff of Humboldt, Nebr, Mrs Esther Kruse of Ogden, Iowa, and Mrs. Edna Barritt of Battle Creek Mich, also 28 grandchildren and four brothers. Her twin brother Charles Courtright of Perkins Oklahoma, Mode Courtright of Rembrandt, Iowa, Wilbur and Joseph of Perkins, Okla, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Du Rain, Pawnee, Okla, and Mrs. Hannah Ladd of Drumright, Okla. There are also many other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
When they moved within bounds Mrs. Walkinshaw united with the Blanchard Reformed Presbyterian Church, reared her family in that congregation and was an attentive listener whenever possible to be at services.
Mrs. Walkinshaw was a quiet, unassuming woman, whom "to know was to love," and was a kind and helpful neighbor.
Her chief interest in life centered is her home, husband, and family, then later in the grandchildren and she toiled and planned to enjoy happy home comings with them.
The almost nine months of bedfast suffering and weakness was endured with an uncomplaining spirit and patience which was wonderful. A quiet smile greeted all who entered that sick room and plans were still made there for the comfort of those she loved.
