    A Fatal Auto Crash
    Damon Isaac Price, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Price of this county, who was injured in a car collision in Haskell county, Kansas, Thursday night, November 12, died at St. Anthony’s hospital in Dodge City, Kansas, Sunday morning, November 15, 1931.
    For the past 16 months Mr. Price had been a paper distributor for the Dodge City Globe, delivering that daily to ten Southwest Kansas towns. On this ill-fated trip, he had completed his route and was returning to Dodge City, when his machine and a car, driven by Chester Black, of Satanta, Kansas, collided at an intersection of two state highways.
    Price’s severest injuries consisted of fractures of the two upper vertebrae and a fractured skull. He was taken to a Dodge City hospital in an unconscious condition, and lingered on until last Sunday morning.
    Mr. Price was born July 28, 1904, in Marysville township, where he spent his boyhood days. There he worked on the farm and attended school at district 46. On October 16, 1928, Damn and Miss Lola Fay Dawson, daughter of Frank Dawson of Drexel, Mo., were married. He was employed at the state hospital in Osawatomie for five years, leaving there in the summer of 1930 to accept the Dodge City newspaper position in which capacity he was working at the time of his tragic death.
    Besides his parents, Mr. Price leaves his wife and three children – Lois Evelyn, aged two years, and Waneta Fawn and Wand Susanne, twins, who are six weeks old. Six brothers and three sisters also survive. They are: Herbert, who lives southeast of Paola; James Price of Patton, California; Clifford, of Dodge City; Milton Junior and Johnny Price, of the home; Mrs. Zephy Hampson, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Blanche Gilliland, Paola, and Mrs. Catherine Draper, of Eloise, Michigan.
    The body was brought to the home of Damon’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Price last Tuesday, and funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city last Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B.N. Sypolt, former Paola minister, who now resided in Leavenworth. Pallbearers were Clarence Matney, Albert Matney, Archie Gregge, Albert Sodaman, Glenn McHenry and Arthur Cromley – all friends and co-workers with the deceased when he was employed at the state hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jyce sand three symns – “Sometime We’ll Understand,” “In the Garden” and “Going Down the Valley.” Interment was in the Paolo cemetery. – Paola Spirit.

    Mrs. Lola F. Price, 78, Paola, Kan., died Saturday at an Independence nursing home. She was born in Drexel in Cass County and had lived in Paola most of her life. Mrs. Price was a member of the United Methodist Church of Paola. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Wanita Suhr, Fairway, Mrs. Wand Nuzum, Sedalia, Mo., and Mrs. Lois Hawkins, Wichita, Kans.; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Crutcher, Grandview, Mrs. Norma Bishop, Drexel, Mrs. Phon Collman, Akron, Colo., and Mrs. Edna Ison, Otis, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Freeman Chapel; burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

    Notes:

    Hugh McCullum, a former resident of Arapahoe, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Watson, Englewood, Colo., Wednesday morning of last week. He had been in failing health since the death of his wife three years ago, and the end was not unexpected. The body was brought to Arapahoe for interment, accompanied by Mrs. Watson. Funeral services were held from the residence of J.L. Tull Friday forenoon, the services being conducted by Elders McGraw and Evans.
    Deceased was a highly respected citizen of Arapahoe for a number of years, and wore the latter years of his life away caring for his wife, who was a hopeless invalid and bedfast eleven years. After her death he visited here and there with his children in the hope that a rest and change of scene and climate would bring back some of his former good health, but he gradually failed, his age being too great for recuperation.
    Hugh McCullum was born at Port Stewart, Ireland, in 1843 and moved to Canada in 1861; came from Canada to the United States in 1864. Died at Englewood, Colo., Sept. 17, 1913, age 70 years. He leaves to mourn his loss, six children, Mrs. Sarah Watson, of Englewood, Colo.; John McCullum, of Arapahoe; Mrs. Maggie Weaver, of Goshen, Ind.; William McCullum, of Arapahoe; Mrs. Elvina Price, of Paola, Kans., and Mrs. Catherine Hawkins, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Pass to Her Reward.
    Died. – At her home in south Arapahoe, Sunday night at 11 o’clock, Mrs. C. McCollum, who for several years past as been sorely afflicted with Rheumatism. The funeral took place at the M.E. Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and was attended by many sorrowing relatives and friends.
    Catherine McBride was born in 1835 in Colerain Ireland, Antrim county. She would have been 77 years 10 months old the 12 day of August. She was married to Hugh McCollum in 1863 in Colerain Ireland. From there they sailed for Canada. She was of Presbyterian parents and has been a member of thata church since 1864. There are 6 children alive and one dead. Mrs. P. Watson, of Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Jessie Weaver, of Goshen, Ind., and Mrs. A. Price, of Paola, Kan.; Mrs. C. Hawkins of Akron, Colo., and two sons, John and William, living near Gosper, Neb. Our people extend their sympathy to the bereaved husband and children in their hour of sadness.
