    • Curtis William Porter passed away Sunday, June 15 at Valley Care Medical Center.

      He was born October 21, 1922, on a farm southwest of Topeka, KS, to Emory William and Alma Jane (Fox) Porter. Curt attended Auburn, KS, Elementary school and was graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. He served in the Air Force from April, 1944 to May, 1946, putting radar in our bombers going to the South Pacific. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation, first on the roads as a striper, then in the sign shop for a total of 34 years. He was president of the local council and the state council for Kansas Public Employees Union for several years. He also owned and operated a janitorial service for 7 years before retiring in 1987.

      Curt and Glennyce were married September 19, 1970. They were full-time RV'ers for 16 years. They spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas and their summers traveling our country from Alaska to Florida and California to Maine. For several summers they worked at Clinton State Park near Lawrence, KS. In 1989, they volunteered in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia during the summer. In 1999, they began four summers of volunteering in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, ending in 2003, when they were awarded Volunteers of the year for the Eastern Division which included 14 national forests in 9 different states. They have volunteered at the Valley Care Thrift Shop in Livermore for the past 10 years. They are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore California.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale, a sister, Ruth, son-in-law, Terry Keeling, and his first wife, Gloria Luttjohann Porter. Curt is survived by his wife, Glennyce, four children, Mike (Sandi); Teresa; Kim (Gerry) and Jack (Sue); nine grandchildren; Monique (Jake), Michael (Theresa), Shane, Christa, Seth, Vicki (Eric), Sarah (David), Becky (Hazey) and Katie and 10 great-grandchildren; Isabella, Lance, Michael III, Elisha, Eden, Andrew, Alex, Ethan, Audrey and Toby, a niece and several nephews.
