      December 5, 1934 ~ February 2, 2011

Tehachapi, CA - Grant Baskerville McNaughton died tragically and very unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the age of 76. He was an inspiration to everyone whose lives he touched and who had the good fortune to know him. Grant was born December 5, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of General Kenneth P. McNaughton and Elizabeth Baskerville. He is survived by his only sibling, his dear sister, Perry, and by his devoted and loving wife, Cathy. He is also survived by his former wife, Jeanne as well as his four sons and two stepchildren, Ken, Tim, Shan, Barry, Alex and Cate. He was affectionately called "Grantpa" by his 13 grandchildren: Aidan, Ryan, Megan, Sara, Lily, Natalia, Nicolas, Casey, Ben, Cole, Grace, Jack, and Samantha.
Grant lived an extraordinarily full life. A man of boundless energy, he was interested in everything and he gave 110% to everything he did.
He graduated from Pomona College and received his medical degree from UCLA Medical School in 1961. Grant joined the U.S. Air Force where he served a distinguished career, ultimately reaching the rank of Colonel. During the Viet Nam War, he was stationed in Laos where he ran a medical field hospital. He worked as a flight surgeon when stationed at Edwards A.F.B. and when he transferred to Norton A.F.B., he ran the Flight Safety Center. After retirement, he began practicing community medicine. To most, this tireless, compassionate and hard-working man was simply known as "Doc." His work as a doctor profoundly shaped his life and benefitted so very many of the lives he touched. Before moving to Tehachapi, he lived and worked in Monterey. He was director of Long Term Care at Tehachapi Hospital and was named physician of the year for three of the last five years. He kept a very busy schedule, helping and healing until a few days before his unexpected and very untimely death.
Grant had such a big heart and touched so many lives in so many profound ways. His passing deeply saddens us but we are comforted by the knowledge that he was clear in his beliefs and had enormous faith and hope in God.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at Country Oaks Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011. The address is:
20915 Schout Rd., Tehachapi, CA 93561.
