Members present, Mod Wall & Elders McClure & Rhea. Miss Mary Herron Chapman applied for admission into the Church, which after an examination was granted. Received as members of the Church on certificate Isaac Shields & Margaret his wife from the Aisquack St. Pres. Church, Baltimore, MD. Session took a recess until tomorrow after the regular service.
From US Presbyterian Church Records, Round Prairie Presbyterian Church, page 43-44. Round Prairie Church, Sep. 5th, 1867. Mr. Isaac Shields having brought charges of Slander against Mr. Isaac Guy & Mrs. Guy, & the Session having taken cognizance of the matter, Mr. Isaac Guy was cited to appear to answer to the charges. The time appointed having arrived, Mr. Guy appeared, but stated that he was unprepared, at present, to defend himself, having failed to procure the witnesses whom he expected to testify in his favor. The Session therefore appointed a subsequent day, one which the parties with their witnesses were to present themselves, in order that the truth of the charges might be investigated. The time having arrived (the 5th of Sep.) the members of the Session all present, also the two parties with their witnesses, the Session proceeded to business. The meeting was opened with prayer. The witnesses were sworn in a body. Opportunity was given to ascertain the competency of the witnesses. Mr. Guy objected to two of the witnesses brought by Mr. Shields on account of near relationship to the prosecutor. The objection of Mr. Guy was sustained by the Session, & the names of the witnesses were stricken off the list. The charges were read & the witnesses called to bear testimony to substantiate them. The testimony of the witnesses of Mr. Shields, against Mr. & Mrs. Guy having been taken, & questions asked by Mr. Guy, of the same witnesses, for his defence, the Session decided that the testimony was not sufficient to sustain the charges. Mr. Guy expressed his willingness, in case the Session should acquit him, to refrain from taking further testimony from his witnesses (only one of them having been heard). & permit the matter to rest; providing the Session should deal with Mr. Shields according to his deserts, for bringing charges against him, & thus trying to do him an injury. The Session having decided that the charges of slander (a copy of which is retained by the Clerk, & which for particular reasons are not made part of this record,) brought against Mr. & Mrs. Guy were not sustained, the witnesses were dismissed, & the meeting was closed with prayer. Mr. C. Rhea, Clerk, Kossuth, Iowa, Sep 5th, 1867.

Obituary
Isaac Shields was born in Ireland December 20th 1833. He departed his life near Lucien, Okla. June the 20th, 1907.
He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret McCollum September 17th 1857. His beloved and devoted wife, passed to her reward May 9th 1903. This union of more than 45 years was a very happy one, and to them were born two sons and five daughters. All these together with thirty grandchildren, survive him.
Mr. Shields came to the United States in 1860, and settled in Baltimore, Md. In 1862 he removed to Des Moines Co., Iowa, and became a member of the Kossuth Presbyterian church. In about 1896 he came to Noble Co. Oklahoma, where he was living when he was called home.
Mr. Shields when a young man gave his heart to God, and identified himself with the Presbyterian church. He was a happy christian; he carried his religion with him in every day life and impressed all with the beauty of true living. He had a kind word for each one he would meet; young people delighted to associate with him, and children loved him. He was thoughtful concerning others, he forgot himself, had words of comfort and cheer for the discouraged, was helpful to his pastor, and in his religion he seemed not to grow old.
He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian church of Perry for a number of years, and will be greatly missed by the entire congregation. The funeral services were held the 21st of June, 1907, from the M.E. church of Lucien, Okla.; were conducted by his pastor, Rev. S.H. Parvin, assisted by Rev. Blackwell of the M.E. church; was attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, and he was laid to rest by the side of his beloved wife, in the McGuire cemetery.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”

Notes:
Died In His 60th Year
John Shields died Friday, April 17, 1925, at his home, 207 North Pearl street, Paola, in his 60th year, following an illness of about four years with anemia. Last summer, Mrs. Shields had a severe attack and his condition was considered serious at that time, however, he gained strength and was apparently better until about four weeks ago when he took the influenza and his body was in too weakened a condition to resist the malady. Born in Mediapolis, Iowa, December 23, 1864, he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1886, and in 1893 moved to Indian Territory. On January 24th, 1894, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Law, at Lincoln, Nebraska, and they lived in the Territory for thirteen years. Later the family came to Miami county in 1906 and settled in Richland township where they lived for six years and then moved to West Valley township, where they lived until February, 1924, at which time they moved to Paola.
Mr. Shields is survived by his wife and five children – Velma, wife of George Dean, lived in Chicago, Illinois; Reamer L. Shields, of San Francisco, California; Byron Shields, on the home place in West Valley township; Elwood and Dorothy at home. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Jas. Tull, Arapahoe, Nebraska; Mrs. J.L. Kirkhart, of Lucian, Oklahoma; Mrs. Jennie Watson, Lucian, Oklahoma; Mrs. Elizabeth Woodside, Denver, Colo. and one brother, William Shields, of Perry, Oklahoma. Reamer, the son in San Francisco, was unable to attend the funeral as he was in a hospital where he had undergone an operation for appendicitis.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Daniels and interment was in the Paola cemetery.
To the world generally Mr. Shields was a man of high worth, but only to close friends was his true greatness known. The good wife, and the rest of the family, knew his excellence, of course, and so did those outside, who had the opportunity to know him intimately. With his hands he earned ground, and with his hands he made it a home; he married, reared children and gave them schooling, so that to-day they honor their parents, and brighten the name. Not much to do? Yes, more than the victor who taketh a city, more than the conqueror who enslaves and impoverishes, more than the rich who grind the poor. John Shields was an average American, the highest type to-day of the world’s manhood. – The Westenr Spirit. (Paola, Kansas).

Herbert S. Tull Dies Following Operation
The news of the death of Herbert S. Tull in a Lexington hospital last Thursday night came as a shock to relatives and friends, for though his condition from the first was critical, he was believed improving. An operation for a perforated ulcer of the stomach had been performed Friday previous, but peritonitis develop, proving fatal.
Herbert had been raised in this community and the number of his friends is best attest by the unusually large gathering for the funeral services Sunday afternoon. The Methodist church could not hold the assemblage, a large number standing outside.

Tom Tull Obituary
Tom was born in Arapaho, Nebraska on his family's farm in 1921. He lived there until 1935, when the Republican River flooded out his family and many of their neighbors. The family moved to town, where they continued to live for many more years. Tom was a football player and a State Championship competitor in the pole-vault while he was at Arapaho High School, graduating in 1939. After graduation he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.) for a year, and then went to Denver, Colorado in 1940 to pursue an education. It was there that he met his future wife, Margaret Hill. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, Tom joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Oakland, California. Margaret joined him there, where they were married and spent the war years. After the war they returned to Denver, where they had their only child, John, in 1946. Tom and Margaret lived in and around the Denver area for the next 47 years, except for one year in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom worked primarily in accounting, but also spent a few years in real estate and landscaping. Road trips throughout the Colorado Rocky Mountains were Tom and Margaret's favorite recreation. In 1993 they moved to Washington State to be near their son, John, daughter-in-law, Charlene, and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Tom liked to golf, so they lived across the street from the Capitol City Golf Course for many years. Tom and Margaret loved the ocean, so they took frequent trips to the coast, especially enjoying the Ocean Shores area and the North Coast of Oregon. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.

Child Dies From Burns
A very distressing accident happened late last Friday evening which caused the death of Duane, two-and-a-half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Tull, living northwest of Arapahoe. A boiler of hot water had been set out in the yard to be used in putting meat down in brine, and the youngster, unnoticed and unnoticing, was pulling his wagon, walking backward and fell into the boiler. Medical aid was secured at once and although the water had been standing outside about an hour, the burns which were confined to the back, were sever and the baby passed away about five hours later.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Methodist church, Rev. W.S. Morris officiating. Special music was furnished by the quartet composed of Ralph Murdoch, L. Clyde Prime, C.M. Evans and Ralph Sohn, accompanied by William McCrory. Interment in the Arapahoe cemetery.
Duane Shields Tull was born at Arapahoe June 21, 1923 and passed away January 29, 1926 at the tender age of two years, seven months and eight days. It is consoling to his parents to know that God with His Infinite love called him peacefully to be with Him. Duane, with his bright and loveable disposition had a place in his home that can never be filled. He leaves to mourn his sorrowing parents, Herbert and Elfreda; one brother, Tommy, a sister, Marjorie Ann; his grandparents and other relatives.
The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents in their irreparable loss.
