    Max L. Billesbach
    Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for Max L. Billesbach, 77, of Santa Maria who died Wednesday at his residence after a lengthy illness. Rev. George Mackey will officiate. Cremation will follow, with private inurnment at a later date.
    Mr. Billesbach was born in Arapahoe, Neb. He lived in Santa Barbara from 1960 until moving to Santa Maria in 1987. He retired in 1974 after over 15 years as manager of the Hi-Time Liquor store in Santa Barbara. He was a former member and past exalted ruler of the McCook, Neb., Elks Lodge and was an avid golfer.
    Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Doris Billesbach, Santa Maria; daughters Carolyn Kay Gettman, Goleta, Judie Talbert and Marsha Lee Thayer, both of Santa Maria; son, John Alan Billesbach, Santa Maria; brothers, Dale Billesbach, Grand Island, Neb., and Neal Billesbach, Arapahoe, Neb.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse service of Northern Santa Barbara county, P.O. Box 1029, Santa Maria, 93456.
    Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

    Poplar Grove Village Treasurer Rex L. Billesbach, 52, died at 2:30 a.m. today after a short illness at St. Anthony Hospital.
    Mr. Billesbach was a Poplar Grove resident for the past 11 years, coming from Lincoln, Neb. He was formerly employed as a cashier at the Poplar Grove State Bank and also formerly served as Poplar Grove Township Auditor.
    “He did a terrific job as village treasurer,” Harold Emanuel, Poplar Grove president, said. “The other board members have commented on his thoroughness. He was a dedicated individual,” Emanuel added.
    Mr. Billesbach was reappointed village treasurer when Emanuel took office this year.
    “He also helped me get the vote out,” Emanuel, who is also a Republican precinct committeeman, said.
    “He was precise, accurate and will be greatly missed,” Emanuel concluded.
    Mr. Billesbach was born in Arapahoe, Neb. on March 29, 1921, the son of Harve and Margaret Tull Billesbach. He married Lauretta Sorce on Oct. 4, 1947 in Somerville, Mass.
    He was a member of Capron American Legion and the Belvidere V.F.W.
    He is a W.W.II veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
    He is survived by his wife, Lauretta; his father, Harve of Hastings, Neb., two daughters, Mrs. Max Brantner of Morton, Ill., and Julie at home; one son, Steven at home; three brothers, Max of Santa Barbara, Calif., Neal of Arapahoe, Neb., and dale of Grand Island, Neg.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Harve Billesbach.
    Funeral services will be conducted Saturday in Arapahoe, Neb. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home.
    A memorial has been established in his name for the Boone County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

    Dale A. Billesbach was born November 14, 1925 in Oxford, Nebraska the son of Harvey L. & Margaret O. (Tull) Billesbach. He was raised in Edison, Nebraska, graduating from Edison High School with the class of 1943. He was active in all sports and played the trombone for many years. He entered the United States Navy, March 30, 1944 and served until June 19, 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He enrolled at the University of Nebraska in September of 1946 and received his bachelor’s degree in August of 1949 from the College of Business. He began his career with the Internal Revenue Service on November 14, 1949 and served in North Platte, Lincoln and was the Manager of the Grand Island office at his retirement in December 1980. In April, 1981 he became the Firm Administrator for the C.P.A. firm of Shonsey and Associates until his retirement in July of 2001.

    Dale was united in marriage to Maryan Martin of Stamford at the First Christian Church in Lincoln, October 22, 1950.

    He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O. Elks, past President and Secretary Treasurer of the Central Nebraska Shrine Club and past President and Treasurer of the Riverside CCHA. A member of the UNL alumni, American Legion, D.A.V. Ashlar Lodge #33, Tehama Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters and NARFE.

    He was an avid sports fan and golfer and he enjoyed having five holes-in-one.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Maryan Billesbach of Grand Island, son, David Billesbach, Carbondale, CO, daughter, Janet Billesbach of Grand Island, son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Laine Billesbach of Lincoln, four grandsons, Jaryd Billesbach, Joe (Maggie) Billesbach, Andy Billesbach, Sam Billesbach, four great granddaughters, Lily, Kate, Molly & Cora Billesbach; two sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.

    Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
