The News-Gazette (Champaign, IL) Friday July 12, 1940 Mrs. Yeazel, 82, Homer, Taken By Death Homer, July 12 – (BSC) – Mrs. Cordelia Yeazel, 82, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday at her home on West First street of complications following a fractured hip suffered five months ago. She was a patient in Lakeview hospital, Danville, for two months, but had been removed to her home. Mrs. Yeazel was born March 15, 1858, in Fayette, IA., a daughter of David and Lucy West. After her marriage to M. L. Yeazel April 14, 1926, she came to Homer and had lived here since. Mr. Yeazel died in August, 1939. The deceased was a member of the Homer Presbyterian church. Surviving are three step-daughters, Mrs. Charles Havard, Homer; Mrs. Owen Johnston, Valparaiso, Ind., Mrs. C. V. Davis, Sheridan, Wyo., and several nieces and nephews. | 5062 | Notes rom Find a Grave William died of a heart attack July 14, 1945, while working as an engineer of a S.F.P. & P. train. He was on a regular L.A.-Phoenix passenger run near Wickenburg. The train was traveling about 55 M.P.H. with William at the helm, when his fireman noticed that William had been stricken. He apparently died instantly. | 5063 | November 29, 1851-- March 3, 1936 March 27, 1884 Isaac Western Eddy, the son of Alpheus and Elizabeth Jeffers Eddy was born in Monroe country, Ohio, Nov. 29, 1851, and came to this county with his parents in the autumn of 1866, and since that time has resided in this county. On the 27th day of March, 1884, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Ellis, and to them were born Ross, Will, and Mrs. W.E. Benson. Mrs. Clyde Ashby, who passed away May 12, 1921, and the wife and mother, June 29, 1931. Others surviving are ten grandchildren, two brothers, John and Will. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Cyrena McCoy, Mrs. Elizabeth Graham, Mrs. Mahala Banks, Jeffers and Asberry Eddy. He was a true father, a loyal citizen, and will be sadly missed by his loved ones, neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held Friday at the Miller Funeral home with Rev. Frank A. | 5065 | Obit from Find a Grave Sarah Ann Manges, daughter of Sylvester and Mary Manges was born in Salisbury, Mo on March 22 1862. She came to Bourbon county with her mother and family when a child and they homesteaded a farm northwest of the city in what is now known as the Stringtown neighborhood. This part of Kansas was all in dense timber at the time. The father was in the Union army and the Confederates raided the place, burning their cabin and taking away their stock. Mrs. Sivey often recalled how they came to Kansas with the adults walking and the children riding on featherbeds on backs of mules. She was a member of the Christian chruch at Iola. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Cheney Memorial chapel with the Rev. Wilbert Dunlap officiating. Interment will be made in the Oak Grove cemtery. Leonard D. Wilson in charge. Mrs. Hale died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital June 26, 1964, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 28 days. She had been in failing health for the past six years. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Included in the services was the following obituary: Cecile Ona Morris Hale, daughter of the late William A. [lonzo] and Martha R.[osetta Freemyer] Morris, was born July 28, 1898, in Taylor County, Iowa. She was united in marriage May 12, 1917 to Ernest L. [loyd] Dowell. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Glenn (Luella) Straight and Mrs. R.[obert] D. [ouglas] (Helen Ruth) Timberlake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in May 1930. Cecile moved her family to Bedford from Blockton in the fall of 1930. She was employed as a clerk in various business places in Bedford through the years. In 1931, she joined the First Baptist Church at Bedford where she retained her membership until her death. She was united in marriage to Charles E. [dward] Hale in January 1934. To this union twin sons were born, Charles E. [dward] and William E. He was born on March 31st., 1929 to the Late Lawrence R. Creagan and Bertha L. Warner in Centerville,Iowa. He was a 43 year employee of the Maytag Company beginning his career in 1948 as senior factory clerk and held various positions in the Industrial Engineering Department before being named Labor Relations Associate in the Industrial Relations Division and a member of the companies negotiating team in 1971. In 1972 Creagan was named Director of Labor Relations, becoming Vice President of Labor Relations in 1981. He was named to the corporate position of Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 1986 and Senior Vice President of the Diversified Products Division in 1987. The following year he was promoted to President of the division. In 1988 Creagan was named President of the Magic Chef Co. and elected to the Maytag Corporation's Board of Directors. He was active with and served as President of Progress Industries, The Maytag Management Club, Newton Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Development Club while in Newton,Iowa. He loved golf, playing duplicate bridge and Tennis. He loved thoroughbred horse racing and was part owner of one at one time. While raising his sons he was involved in coaching Little League and Babe Ruth, and also served as a Boy Scout leader. He was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. After moving to Cleveland he followed his grandchildren's activities and was an avid fan of Bradley Wrestling. In addition to his Mother and Father, Wayne was preceded in death by his brothers Lawrence Creagan Jr., James Creagan, Patrick Creagan and his sister Marilyn(Sally)Coffin. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 67 years Barbara Ann Dhority Creagan, brother, Dan Creagan, Sister-in-law, Donna Lakin and three sons, Larry (Linda)Creagan, Mike (Denise) Creagan,and Bill(Laurrie) Creagan. He has 9 Grandchildren Elizabeth Sanders, Jeffrey Creagan, Jennifer Hilliard, Jason Creagan, Thelma Hall, Michael Creagan, Brittney Creagan Viar, Travis Creagan, and Evelin A. Creagan. He also had 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and other extended friends and family. The Creagan Family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all of those in the medical field who attended to him in the last few months. The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, September 11th. followed by services at 7pm at the Clingan Ridge Baptist Church, 2412 Georgetown Rd, Cleveland TN, 37311 with Pastor Steve Morgan officiating. There will be a private family interment at 11am Friday September 12th. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland with Travis Creagan, Michael Creagan, Jason Creagan, Josh Viar, Barney Bushore and Todd Brown serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Sandeen, Tom Briatico, Mike Ruesswig, Greg Irwin, Jerry Ward, Charlie Stinchfield, Ralph DeCicco, Steve Claude, Larry Brand, Jim Kirwan, Matt Seamon, Del Lins and Joanne Shearer. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent in memory of C. Wayne Creagan to one of these local Cleveland causes: the newly founded C. Bahler, 82, of South Bend, passed away at 8:03 a.m. on Sunday, August 2nd, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Mrs. Bahler was born on July 10, 1927, in Rensselaer, IN, to the late Ernest and Mabel (Scott) Nuss. She had lived in South Bend since 1950. On September 7, 1946, in Rensselaer, she married James W. Bahler, who preceded her in death on May 15, 1991. Her daughter-in-law, Marcia Bahler, passed away on February 17, 2009, and her grandson, Ryan Bahler, passed in March 1995. Three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death. Mrs. Bahler was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Bend and was very active with the Senior Bowling League at Chippewa Lanes. She enjoyed her volunteer work with Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary, was past president of the Ladies of the Elks, and was also past president of Speech and Hearing. Mrs. Bahler also enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos and gambling boats. Mrs. Bahler is survived by her three children, Gregory Bahler of South Bend, Lori (Craig) Trobaugh of Savannah, GA, and Nanette (David) Tschida of South Bend; and five grandchildren, Stephanie (Andy) Leed of Plymouth, Dr. Corey (Anne) Trobaugh of Franklin, Derek Trobaugh of Worcester, MA, Kristen Tschida of South Bend and Justin Tschida of South Bend; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett, McKenzie and Mason Leed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Frank was born April 26, 1925 in Chicago, IL to the late Felix and Theresa (Folino) Stella. Frank served his country as a paratrooper while in the U.S. Army during WWII. On September 14, 1957 he married Isabella Price. He was self-employed in shoe manufacturing and also worked at Sullair in Michigan City. Frank was a member of the New Buffalo Rod and Gun Club and also a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church in New Buffalo. He was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman. She enjoyed quilting and giving the finished projects as family heirlooms. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, John A. and Marvel Newbrough. Survivors include two daughters, Becky (Donald) Owens and Lori Ann Fry; two sons, Jerry B. (Karen) Sims and Dennis W. | 5075 | Obit from Find a Grave January 5, 1974 - Humboldt Independent - Services for Roy Cronk, 82, Humboldt, were held Jan. 2 in Lindhart Funeral Home with burial in Union Cemetery. Mr. Cronk died at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Saturday where he had been a patient for two weeks. Surviving are sons: Donald, Humboldt; Delmar, Inglewood, Calif.; a daughter, Miss Marjorie Cronk, Humboldt; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Johnson, International Falls, Minn. Mr. Cronk was born at Humboldt, was educated here and served in the U.S. Army during World War I. In 1928 he married Esther Terwilliger at Humboldt. The couple farmed in the Humboldt area and then Mr. Cronk was employed at the Humboldt Hemp Plant until it closed. He then was employed by Sande Construction Company as a trucker until his retirement. Mrs. Cronk died in 1953. Mr. Cronk was a member of the American Legion Post. Officiating at final rites was Dr. Ralph Kitterman. Casket bearers were Rollen Thornton, Orville Anderson, Ray Smith, Ron Helvick, Russell Terwilliger and Richard Terwilliger. After retiring from the USAF, he worked for Vitro Services in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was an active member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama. He was ordained as a Deacon at Bethany Baptist Church in Crane Hill, Alabama. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed gold-mining while residing in California and Arizona. He was proud of his Choctaw heritage. His grandmother, Sally K. LeFlore Ward, was an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Ward Sims; his father, D.A. Sims; and a niece, Kelly Marie Sims. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Becky S. Owens and husband Donald W. and Lori Ann Fry; two sons, Jerry B. Sims and wife Karen and Dennis W. Mrs. Horner had been a patient sufferer for three weeks with the disease, but was thought to be recovering and her death was indeed a sad shock to the family and to her many friends. She was united in marriage to Reuben Horner Dec. 9, 1885, and nine children were born to them, all of whom survive at follows: Mrs. Cleve Hipshire, Mrs. Henry Bidwell, Mrs. Albert Felhauer, Charles Horner and Emma, Claudine, Lucille, Clarence and Everett Horner, all residing in Niles. She also leaves seven brothers and three sisters who live in this city. Mrs. Horner was an active member of Niles Hive, No. 39, L.O.T.M.M., and the Royal Neighbors. The child fell from a dining room chair at his home about 12:30 p.m. yesterday, and suffering from convulsions was rushed to Pawating hospital where he died several minutes after admittance to the emergency room. Exact Cause Undetermined Coroner William Pifer said that the child apparently died of injuries suffered in the fall. Exact cause of death was undetermined. The child is survived by his parents and an infant brother, John. Other survivors are his grandmother, Mrs. Millie Houghtelling; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Horner, great-grandmother, Mrs. Emma Fitzgerald, all of Niles; and great-grandfather, William Price, of Buchanan. | 5094 | Obituary To the News. Hymah Green McMillin was born in Franklin county, Ohio, Sept. 14, 1813, and died July 25, 1899, aged eighty-five years, ten months and ten days. In 1842 he was married to Amanda Cline, who departed this life in 1858. To this union was born five children, all of whom have preceded the father to the other life as follows: Josephine, died Sept. 6, 1852; William, died July 5, 1856; George L., lost his life in the Union army in the defense of his country, July 22, 1864; Susana, died march 20, 1875, and Harvey H., died March 11, 1875 - this leaving the father childless. Two brothers, five grand children and three great grandchildren survive him. Mr. McMillin was one of the old settlers of Vermilion County, Ill., having removed with his parents to this county in 1831 and settled at Sugar Grove. Afterwards the family moved to near Denmarck where he spent the most of his life. He was a farmer by occupation and in his earlier days before railroad accommodation hauled produce to Chicago and Milwaukee. Mr. McMillin was not a member of any church, was liberal in his religious views and expressed his faith in a living God. Too much cannot be said of this generous and noble man. He was a good citizen, a true patriot and honest and upright in his deeds. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and his death will be sincerely regretted by a host of friends. He was united in marriage to Susan M. Herndon of Anderson county, Kentucky 55 years ago. To this union was born 6 children, four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, expect one son who died in infancy. Left to mourn his passing is his aged wife, three sons, A.H. of Spokane, Washington, Mitt C., of Hermiston, Ore., W. Terrill of Summersville, Mo., Mrs. Mary E. Taber, Mountain View, Mo., and Mrs. Ada Becker of Mountain View. Also surviving are six devoted grandchildren, Edward Lee, Martha Sue and Al Ray Taber, and Edwin, John Lee and Suehelen Gritton; seven nieces and five nephews, most of whom reside in his home state of Kentucky. Many other relatives, a host of friends and loving neighbors will miss him for to know him was to love him. His parents, four brothers, one of them his twin, and three sisters all preceded him in death. He joined the Methodist Church of Salvisa, Ky., very young in life and remained a staunch worker for his Lord until the end. After moving to the Western part of the United States with his young family, he was ordained a Methodist minister and followed this work many years before ill health forced him to retire. In the early twenties he moved from the west to an Ozark farm in Texas County, near Arroll, Missouri, where he lived, until he and his wife moved with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker to Mountain View about six years ago. | 5097 | Obituary : Lauretta Baatz Borgman : 1917 - 2012 Mrs. Lauretta (Works) Baatz Borgman, age 94, of Bennington, Indiana, Lauretta entered this life on September 18, 1917, on a farm near Allensville, Indiana, the daughter of Roy D. Works & Ethel May (Hastings) Works Scudder, both of whom preceded her in death. When she was just 6 months old, her parents decided to move to a farm on Allensville Road. Lauretta lived all of her life on the family farm, except for the two winter trips to Colorado. Lauretta's father passed away suddenly when she was 11 years old. She & her mother were left alone to run the family farm. She always joked that she knew how to drive a tractor, when most women could not. Lauretta continued on with her schooling & about the seventh grade she became interested in writing & reciting poems. From then on, she was constantly writing her thoughts down. On April 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ralph T. Baatz just before her graduation from Vevay High School. They settled down on the family farm & started their happy life together. Ralph was called to service during World War II & just before he left for service, around Christmas time, he bought Lauretta a portable typewriter as a special gift. Again she was left to maintain the farm by herself. She was able to trade off work with other farmers, plowing & disking & whatever it took to run the family farm. Three years later her husband returned from the South Pacific to a wife who could run a farm & was a newspaper correspondent. She began writing for the Vevay Newspapers in 1945, a job she took very seriously. She continued writing the Allensville News, while her husband continued the farming operation. On May 7, 1954, Lauretta suffered another tragic loss, when her husband of 19 years died suddenly, but Lauretta's faith in God helped her through this very sad period of her life. In 1955, Lauretta began preparing taxes & continued to prepare taxes for the community for over 50 years. In 1954, she received her Insurance License & began selling Crop Insurance to farmers in the community. On February 14, 1957, she found happiness again & was united in marriage to Clyde L. Borgman & they enjoyed over 39 years of marriage together until his death on February 29, 1996. In 1968, Lauretta's collection of poems was published in a book titled "Hoosier Breezes." This was truly an inspiration to her & anyone who chose to read them. Lauretta was a very talented pianist & she wrote & composed song's titled, "A Soldier's Prayer", "A Risen Savior" & "I'm In Love With You", to name a few. Lauretta was a member & the pianist for the Allensville United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Bennington Order of Easter Star Chapter #407 & the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Aurora, IN. She also wrote numerous obituaries for family, friends & neighbors over the years to be read during funeral services. She also sold greeting cards & Vitamins throughout the community. For over 60 years, Lauretta has continued as the Allensville News Correspondent, gathering her news on Monday mornings to make the deadline for the weekly newspaper. Lauretta served on the Board & as the Switzerland County Chairman for the American Cancer Society. She served as the caretaker of the Salem Cemetery on Tapps Ridge, for over 50 years. She established endowments with the Community Foundation of Switzerland County for scholarships in memory of the Works, Hastings, Baatz & Borgman Families. Lauretta sponsored a little girl through the Compassion Inc. & Children's International Inc., for over 30 years. She was an avid supporter of the wildlife, Humane Society, Switzerland County Animal Shelter, Heifer International & Gideon's International. Lauretta played the piano every Tuesday at the worship service at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for as long as her health permitted her. Lauretta will be remembered for her love of her cats & dogs & especially her faithful companion that she rescued from the barn, Miss Kitty. She has given countless hours of time as a volunteer & philanthropist to her community & to her nation. This poem that she had written & that was published in The Cornucopia Poetry Quarterly in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the Spring of 1966, says it best. I write about the birds that sing, And the flowers beneath the snow. And I write about my neighbors, The folks I really know. He married Margaret Jane Stafford Oct. 12, 1952 in Odell. She preceded in death Oct. 18, 1997. He had lived and farmed all of his life in Shawnee Township. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He had served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3318 of Attica. Surviving, are: a daughter, Nancy (Ralph) Tillotson, Attica; four grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Matthew and Emily' Tillotson, Attica; and several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He was preceded in death by the three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Friday) the Jeff Newton officiating.
